Tom Brady: What Was the New England QB's Best Regular Season?

Tony SantorsaJan 3, 2011

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady just finished up his regular season and lead his team to an impressive league-best 14-2 record.

Brady, the front-runner for MVP, is having an amazing, record-breaking season.

Some can debate that this is Brady's best season of his career.  However, you can easily say his record-breaking 2007 undefeated regular season was his best.

So, what season was better for Tom Brady, 2010 or 2007?

Well, for starters, Brady's 2007 campaign was the best season ever played by a quarterback in NFL history. Brady threw for 4,806 yards and an NFL-record 50 touchdowns. As Brady posted a 117.2 passer rating, he led the team to an improbable 16-0 record.

Now for this year's stats: Brady threw for only 3900 yards, threw 36 touchdowns and had a 111.0 passer rating while only throwing four interceptions.

As Brady broke the NFL touchdown record back in 2007, he broke an even more impressive record this season. He has thrown 335 passes without an interception, which is a new NFL record.

But, that doesn't solve anything quit yet. Brady did have a better season statistically in '07, but was more efficient in '10.

However, when you look at Brady's weapons in '07, he had very talented receivers such as Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth. With receivers like that, you'd play to your strength, which is passing, more than you run.

In Brady's most recent season, he had a solid receiving corps with Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. However, Hernandez and Gronkowski are both rookies and Brady is making them look like league veterans.

Also New England didn't pass the ball nearly as much as they did in 2007 when Brady threw 578 passes, as he only threw 492 passes in 2010.  Brady didn't have to throw the ball as much simply because the Patriots had a solid, respectable running game led by BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead.

So, there is no real answer to which regular season was better; it's only a matter of opinion.

My opinion: 2010 is Tom Brady's best regular season yet.
