Oakland Raiders: Al Davis Intrigued with Former Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels

Frank FittipaldiJan 2, 2011

According to San Francisco reporter Nancy Gay, the Raiders are interested in former Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, who was relieved of duty during the regular season.

With Tom Cable unlikely to return to Oakland in 2011, it is being rumored that McDaniels is a possible candidate to replace Cable next season.

Gay has also reported that Al Davis will not pick up Cable's option for 2011, which means Cable is all but done as head coach in Oakland.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has previously reported that Cable will not coach the Raiders next season.

McDaniels would not be a wise choice for the Raiders after his recent involvement in a spygate scandal.

McDaniels was 11-17 as Broncos head coach before being fired.

Another possible candidate to take over for Cable is offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who did a nice job with the Raiders this season contributing to their solid 8-8 season.

Cable must be informed by January 18th if his option will be exercised, but according to the reports, it is very unlikely.

Cable has done a solid job with the Raiders after taking over for Lane Kiffin in 2008, but if he is relieved of duty, Hue Jackson should be the guy.

It would be wise for the Raiders to keep it within the organization and hiring Jackson would do just that.

Jackson did a solid job this season and deserves to be a candidate for Raiders head coach or another head coaching position around the league.

The Raiders went 6-0 in the AFC West and finished 8-8 this season after a 31-10 victory of the Chiefs in Week 17.
