WWE and TNA Power Rankings: Week 3 of the Sweet 16

Ryan FryeJan 1, 2011

After taking Christmas off, I'm back with the Sweet 16! The Sweet 16 ranks the Top 16 WWE and TNA superstars each week. Keep in mind, I will be reviewing the past two weeks. I could ramble on, or I could give you the four criteria:

1. Momentum

2. Wins/Losses throughout the week

3. Consistency

4. Support from the fans

So here we go with this week's Sweet 16!

Gone from the List

1 of 18

Wade Barrett (16)

Kofi Kingston (15)

United States Champion, Daniel Bryan (13)

16. TNA Tag Team Champions: The Motor City Machine Guns

2 of 18

Last Ranking: NR

Two weeks ago, they retained their tag titles in an eight-man tag match. This week on Impact, Chris Sabin lost his singles match against Robert Roode. It appears as if these two men will once again face Beer Money sometime soon.

15. Matt Morgan

3 of 18

Last Ranking: 9

Matt Morgan picked up a win against his Genesis opponent, Mr. Anderson, in a tag team match last Thursday night. The week before, he helped the Motor City Machine Guns retain their tag titles. However, Immortal still has control and "the Blueprint" still has to fight his friend, Ken Anderson.

Side Note: Matt Morgan and Sheamus crossed paths, I thought this picture was cool.

14. TNA X-Division Champion: Jay Lethal

4 of 18

Last Ranking: 13

Two weeks ago, Lethal figured out that he would be facing Kazarian for his X-Division Title. This week, after hearing Kaz trash about him, his family and the house he grew up in, Lethal attacked Kaz only to be hit with some kind of weapon that knocked him out.

I would say Lethal will retain somehow, because he hasn't been champion for that long. Don't be suprised to see Fourtune and Immortal cost Lethal the title, in favor of Kazarian.

13.

5 of 18

Last Ranking: 12

He lost the fatal four-way tables, ladders, and chairs match at the TLC pay-per-view. He's recovered with two tag team wins and will face Alberto Del Rio on Friday night in a two out of three falls match. Del Rio has to finally go over, doesn't he?

12. TNA Television Champion: Douglas Williams

6 of 18

Last Ranking: 11

Two weeks ago on Impact, Douglas Williams defended his TV Title against AJ Styles in an ironman match; the match ended up in a draw. This week, he teamed with Brutus Magmus to lose to AJ Styles and Rob Terry. However, it was Magmus who got pinned, so that doesn't affect his position as much as getting pinned.

At Genesis, Wiliams will once again defend his championship versus AJ Styles. If Styles loses, he is out of Fourtune and Immortal. I expect Williams to win, keeping his title and we'll see AJ Styles turn face.

11. The King of the Ring: Sheamus

7 of 18

Last Ranking: 8

He lost at TLC to John Morrison and is starting to lose direction. Two weeks ago on Raw, he attacked Morrison during "The Mizmas Carol" and lost to Randy Orton the following week. Sheamus is needing a feud right now, but maybe without one until the Royal Rumble. You get what I'm saying; he's waiting for Triple H to return.

10. Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler

8 of 18

Last Ranking: NR

Dolph Ziggler retained his championship at the TLC pay-per-view. He followed up by a week that he lost to John Cena twice, but this happens to everybody who faces John Cena. He also took him to the limit both times and showed he is capable of being a main eventer. On Friday Night, he slithered away with the title after a great triple threat match against Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger.

Who will his next challenger be?

9. Kane

9 of 18

Last Ranking: 7

He lost his World Title at TLC to Edge. He will envoke his rematch clause next week, in a Last Man Standing Match. On Smackdown, he lost in a tag team match to Edge and Rey Mysterio.

I think Kane will lose and be out of the World Title picture for a while. Who is his next feud? It will be interesting to see.

8. Alberto Del Rio

10 of 18

Last Ranking: 6

He didn't win the title at TLC and has had two tag team losses in two weeks. While his stock has dropped, all can be forgiven if he beats Rey Mysterio in a two out of three falls match. If he does win, he'll likely get a world title shot at the Royal Rumble.

7. John Morrison

11 of 18

Last Ranking: 10

John Morrison was on the winning end of three matches in the past two weeks. One made him the No. 1 contender for The Miz's WWE Championship. This past Monday night, Morrison beat Alex Rielly so he could choose the time and stipulation for the title match. He told Jerry "The King" Lawler it was going to be a Falls Count Anywhere Match on Raw. So will he walk out of Raw the WWE Champion?

I don't think so. The creative team's booking with this is becoming scary. Are they already having this feud end? I hope not.

6. John Cena

12 of 18

Last Ranking: 3

At TLC, John Cena got rid of his Nexus problem! Or so we thought. He would be attacked by CM Punk on back-to-back nights last week. This week didn't get any better, as he learned CM Punk was the new leader of Nexus.

On a side note, he also suffered a hip pointer at a house show and cannot wrestle for the next few weeks.

5. Randy Orton

13 of 18

Last Ranking: 4

He lost at TLC to The Miz. He would be on the winning side of a six-man tag match the following night on Raw. This week, he defeated "The Celtic King" (okay, I made the nickname up, anybody like it?)

People criticize John Cena, but at least his character has some direction without being in the title picture.

4. WWE Champion: The Miz

14 of 18

Last Ranking: 5

The Miz retained his title at TLC against Randy Orton. He then would be beat by Jerry "The King" Lawler two weeks in a row. However, The Miz would get some revenge with an attack on "The King" this week.

3. CM Punk

15 of 18

Last Ranking: NR

This is the biggest jump anyone has made in the three weeks of these rankings. CM Punk attacked John Cena twice and became the leader of the Nexus the next week. It will be interesting to see what happens.

2. Jeff Hardy

16 of 18

Last Ranking: 2

Hardy once again sits at two, because nothing has really changed from two weeks ago. He did end up on the losing end of an eight-man tag match, but that doesn't hurt him much. He is in control in TNA these days, as he is picking nearly everybody's opponents.

An upcoming trial is going to force TNA to take the title of this guy sooner rather than later. Will it be at Genesis?

1.

17 of 18

Last Ranking: 1

He won the World Title at TLC and hasn't looked back since. He was on the winning tag team versus Kane and Alberto Del Rio. He stays at number one, can anybody dethrone him anytime soon?

Winners

12/11/10: Edge

12/18/10: Edge

1/1/11: Edge
