New Orleans Hornets vs. Boston Celtics: Post-Game Reaction and Grades
Recap: Chris Paul had 20 points, David West had 19 as the New Orleans Hornets handed the Boston Celtics their second home loss of the season. At the start of the fourth quarter, it appeared as if the Celtics' defensive prowess would stifle any chances of a Hornets' victory, as they began the quarter on a 16-0 run. But, the Hornets played gritty defense of their own as they held the Celtics to just eight points for the remaining six minutes of the game and the Hornets escaped with a 83-81 victory.
What I liked: Boston struggled taking care of the basketball even when Rondo was in the game. The Hornets did an excellent job of forcing turnovers. The Hornets appeared on their way to a fourth quarter collapse, but held on for a huge road win. Whatever Monty Williams said to them appeared to have worked during that timeout; they picked up the defense and made better decisions with the basketball.
What I did not like: The Hornets bench scored a grand total of seven points. Their play has to improve; Paul and West played 40-plus minutes this afternoon.
Chris Paul: Paul was everywhere today, and he set the tone in the first quarter. Did an excellent job of forcing turnovers.
Grade:A+
David West: Not a good rebounding game for him, but kept Davis and O'Neal on their heels with his shooting ability.
Grade: A-
Emeka Okafor: Did an excellent job on the offensive glass and made his presence felt on the defensive end. Took advantage of plenty of scoring opportunities under the basket.
Grade:A+
Trevor Ariza: Ariza made a huge three pointer to give New Orleans the lead for good in the fourth quarter. Other than that, it was a pretty forgettable game.
Marco Belinelli: Struggled fighting through screens on defense for most of the game. Still, his offense was there.
Grade: C+
Willie Green: Struggled with his shot the entire game.
Grade: F
Jarrett Jack: Demps made the move for him to spell Chris Paul but has been a non-factor during most of his time in New Orleans,
Grade:F
Marcus Thorton: Also a non-factor in this game today. But, with his scoring ability, he should be receiving more playing time.
Grade:F
Play of the Game: With 1:34 to play, Trevor Ariza nailed the go-ahead three pointer, defenders draped all over him.
What is Next: The Hornets travel to the Verizon Center to play the Wizards.
