Wolfsburg Striker Edin Dzeko Set to Sign for Manchester City for €40m
According to German reports, Manchester City is set to sign Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg shortly after the transfer window opens in January. Dzeko has been unsettled at the German side and has made intentions of moving on to a bigger club well known.
Manchester City and Wolfsburg have reportedly agreed to a deal for a transfer fee of €30m. An additional €5m will be paid by Man City for a signing on fee and to pay agents. Finally, the agreement includes a clause for another €5m being paid to Wolfsburg in the event that Manchester City qualifies for the Champions League this campaign.
Dzeko rose to the international spotlight two years ago, when Wolfsburg won the German Bundesliga and the Bosnian bagged 36 goals in 42 games.
In the 2009-2010 season, Dzeko continued his impressive goalscoring form with 29 goals in 45 games.
Dzeko has scored 11 goals in 18 games so far this season. At age 24, one would expect that he still has potential yet to be fulfilled.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has made no secret of his desire to buy Dzeko, saying "We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko...This player can decide titles and that is why we want him."
The German paper Bild reports that Dzeko could be available to play as soon as next Wednesday for Man City's match against Arsenal.
Dzeko's signing is likely to allow out of favor striker Emmanuel Adebayor to find first team football at another club.
By signing an established target man, Mancini is expected to have more options when organizing the team's offensive formation. Carlos Tevez has frequently been the lone striker up front this season, and Dzeko's transfer is expected to provide the Argentine with more freedom to roam.
