Edson Barboza Vs. Anthony Njokuani Targeted For UFC 128: "Shogun Vs. Evans"
Two exciting Lightweights and their kicks-from-Hell collide in the UFC's return to New Jersey, or so we hope.
Fresh off of a win against Mike Lullo at UFC 123, fast rising Lightweight prospect Edson Barboza looks to go to war with the ruthless Muay Thai of Anthony Njokuani in a bout likely to happen at UFC 128.
Njokuani rebounded from a two-fight losing streak against Shane Roller at WEC 48 and then Maciej Jewtuszko at WEC 50 to bounce back at the expense of Edward Faaloloto at WEC 52.
The man has never submitted anyone in the cage, but at the same time, he never loses if the fight goes to the judges' scorecards.
If The Assassin ever does lose, it'll be decisive—as in a tap out or a (T)KO.
He'll be in for an equally dangerous challenge, this time in the striking game, when he meets fellow Muay Thai fighter and unrelenting kickboxing sensation Edson Barboza.
The undefeated phenomenon is 7-0 professionally in MMA, 28-3 in Kickboxing and his unblemished streak breaks down to a 6-1-0-0 record with three of his "knockout" wins being actual knockouts by way of punches.
The win over Lullo marked the third TKO win of Barboza's career and the second TKO win earned by his leg kicks alone.
Many have since compared Barboza's leg kicks to a 155-pound Jose Aldo, a comparison that is tough to disagree with considering the impact that results from the kicks themselves.
No doubt, Barboza is a phenom that has fired up the engine and gotten his own hype train rolling at 200 miles per hour with no intention of stopping until he demolishes the man who emerged as undisputed champion after the long awaited UFC Lightweight Title Unifier.
At UFC 128, however, Njokuani will have the chance to derail that hype train and send out his own warning to the champ, whomever that may be.
