David "The Hayemaker" Haye Is Ready To Fight Wladimir Klitschko in 2011
WBA world heavyweight champion David “The Hayemaker” Haye offered Wednesday a 50-50 split of earnings for a prospective unification fight against IBO, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine titlist “Dr. Steelhammer” Wladimir Klitschko for sometime in 2011.
“We have ticked every box they asked us to tick and I just hope Wladimir is as eager to fight as he tells everyone he is,” said Haye, 30, the former unified cruiserweight champion who relinquished his crowns to emulate the heavyweight accomplishments of Evander Holyfield.
“We have removed every possible excuse and have shown we are serious about making this fight become a reality. I only pray Wladimir is as serious as we are, because this fight needs to happen for the good of the sport.”
Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) is an Englishman who possesses decent power in both of his fists and he is extremely quick and in superb physical condition.
Hence, “The Hayemaker” hasn’t been trumped since he lost to Carl Thompson (34-6, 25 KOs) by a fifth round TKO at Wembley Arena in October 2004.
Haye’s verbal “Hayemaker’s” against Klitschko (55-3, 49 KOs) are genuinely comical.
In actuality, despite his excessive trash talking, Haye has avoided Klitschko like a Brit shuns a dentist and his yammering again validates he is a certified clown pocket.
Klitschko, a Ukrainian who captured a gold medal as a super heavyweight at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, hasn’t lost a bout since he suffered a fifth-round technical knockout against Lamon Brewster in April 2004.
Wladimir and his older brother, WBC titlist Vitali, are two of the top 20 heavyweights in the annals of boxing.
Vitali (40-2, 38 KOs), who owns the highest heavyweight knockout percentage in history (95 percent) and has never hit the canvas as a professional, is a tremendous prizefighter.
Granted, for a slew of reasons, the Klitschko’s do not have great drawing power in the United States.
Nevertheless, it is insane that either Klitschko would have to entirely share profits with an unproven and bloated cruiserweight.
“Haye is an active fighter and he has very good skills,” said Mike Cappiello (33-6), a native of Brockton who once fought for the IBO super featherweight crown. “But, he is just too small to overcome the size of the Klitschko brothers.”
Haye’s unrelenting mouth is actually good for the sport of boxing.
Unfortunately for fans of Haye, either Klitschko will easily seal his mouth closed if they ever meet in the squared circle.
