5-Star Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater Commits To Louisville, Spurns Miami
Five-star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater committed to Louisville on Monday, becoming the first five-star prospect to commit to the Cardinals this season.
Bridgewater, who originally committed to Miami, decommitted from the Hurricanes in the wake of coach Randy Shannon's firing and quickly visited Louisville along with high school teammate, three-star wide receiver Eli Rogers.
Both Bridgewater and Rodgers committed to the Cardinals together just over a week after their visit.
Bridgewater is the star quarterback at Miami Northwestern, the same high school at which current Miami quarterback Jacory Harris and several other Hurricanes played.
Known to be an accurate passer with great pocket presence, Bridgewater will stand in the face of pressure until the last second to get the ball off. He's also extremely mobile and can make throws on the run that most quarterbacks simply can't.
He and Rodgers are huge additions for the Cardinals, who up until Monday had receiver DeVante Parker as the only four-star commitment on the books.
While Louisville should thank Miami for firing Shannon and forcing Bridgewater to reconsider his commitment, the decision to join the Cardinals was more about opportunity than anything.
"Man, more than anything it came down to playing time," Bridgewater said. "With me enrolling early I can come in and compete for a starting spot. When I visited I had nothing but love from all the coaches but especially coach Hurtt and coach Strong.
"Coach Groh and I are real close and have built a good relationship. I know the kind of person that he is and he knows the kind of person that I am. I asked him a lot of questions and he answered all of them so I know I can trust him. It's just very exciting knowing the opportunity I have at Louisville. It's the best situation for me and with guys they have like Michaelee Harris and Corvin Lamb and Eli and some of the weapons they have its going to be real fun and exciting."
