Bernard Hopkins Will Defeat Jean Pascal by Unanimous Decision in Two Hours

Colin LinneweberDec 18, 2010

WBC, IBO and light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal will defend his crowns against the legendary Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins tonight in Quebec City, Canada.

Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs), who is a Canadian national, defeated American sensation “Bad” Chad Dawson (29-1-0-1, 17 KOs) by a controversial 11th round technical decision in August.

Nearly two decades after their first bout, Hopkins (51-5-1-1, 32 KOs) easily avenged his loss to Roy Jones Jr. by a lopsided unanimous decision in April during his last action in the squared circle.

Hopkins, 45, the oldest man ever to hold the middleweight championship in the annals of boxing, badly outclassed the famous graybeard formerly known as “Junior” (54-7, 40 KOs).

Despite Jones’ devious and purposely illegal tactics in the ring, Hopkins cruised to his fifth win in six fights since 2005, and he cemented his legacy as the greatest pugilist over 40-years-of-age in the history of the sport.

Pascal, who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, suffered his only loss as a professional to Englishman Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision in December 2008.

Since that contest, Pascal has triumphed in five consecutive contests.

Hopkins has aged gracefully, and he is the antithesis of the character Randy “The Ram” Robinson from The Wrestler.

Pascal, whose hero and inspiration as a youngster was Jones Jr., is an extremely talented pugilist, and at only 28, he is capable of dominating the light heavyweight division for years to come.

Unfortunately for Pascal, Hopkins has somehow managed to maintain his formidability and, he continues to defy “Father Time.”

“Hopkins is not in it for the money,” said Mike Cappiello, a native of Brockton who once fought for the IBO super featherweight title and retired with an impressive mark of 33-6. “He loves to fight.”

Three weeks short of his 46th birthday, Hopkins will again overcome the odds and emerge victorious over the precocious Pascal by unanimous decision.

Pascal has the physical tools and makeup to one day become a great prizefighter.

However, Hopkins is an absolute icon for the ages, and his fabled career will add another chapter of excellence in a couple of hours' time.
