NFL Week 15 Picks: Washington Redskins v. Dallas Cowboys and 5 Keys To Victory

Derek MajorDec 17, 2010

The Redskins make a quarterback change to shake things up, while the Cowboys will try to get back on the winning side with Jason Garrett at the helm.

Washington Redskins

1) Use Ryan Torain: With the Redskins making a change at QB and their offensive line as shaky as it's been all season, the best bet for them is to keep the ball on the ground. The Cowboys also have their issues stopping the run so it should work out.

2) Use Quick Throws: Rex Grossman panics when under any amount of pressure and the Cowboys know that. They're going to blitz and hit him every chance they get, so the Redskins have to make sure that Grossman gets the ball out of his hands quick and doesn't sit around in the pocket.

3) Limit Mistakes: The Redskins are notorious for making mistakes on the field. Penalties, blown coverages, unsportsmanlike conducts, they do it all. If they want any shot at beating the Cowboys on Sunday, they need to play a near perfect game. The Cowboys have stopped the mistakes recently, so they're not going to throw the game away like they did in Week 1.

4) Slow down Jon Kitna: The Redskins are giving up a lot in the passing game and although Kitna maybe throwing to a couple of receivers that haven't caught an NFL pass, he isn't to be taken lightly (he used to play for the Lions after all). Kitna will torch the Redskins if they underestimate him and give him time, so they should bring the heat.

5) Force Turnovers: The Redskins are one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to turnovers and chances are their offense won't accumulate much in this game, so the defense has to step up and take the ball away. If they don't it could be a long day for them.

Dallas Cowboys

1) Miles Austin needs to step up: The Cowboys could be without Roy Williams this weekend and if that's the case the only Cowboys receiver to have caught a pass this season will be Austin. So he needs to get open and catch the ball (he's second in the league in on target drops).

2) Give Tashard Choice the Ball: Choice got just seven touches in last week's game and the Cowboys offense sputtered in the second half. Choice needs to get the ball more in this week's game whether it's on a handoff or on a pass out of the backfield. Jones may be the lightning, but Choice is the guy who keeps the chains moving.

3) Beat Up Grossman: The Cowboys need to pressure Grossman and put a hand on him whenever they can. Push him, bump into him and take him to the ground...hard. If they can do that they should be able to razzle him and they won't have to worry about forcing him into mistakes, he'll make them on his own.

4) Be Physical: The Redskins have quit a lot this year and it's no secret. So if the Cowboys punch the Redskins in the mouth early and score while doing it, the Redskins will lay down pretty quickly. The Cowboys are the better team entering this match-up and they need to play like it or the Redskins will get confident that they can win.

5) Don't letdown in the second half: The Cowboys scored early in the second half last week then completely shutdown on offense. They can't do that this week. They'll need to open up in the second half and put the game away quick. If they don't the 'Skins might get the idea that they can comeback and win.
