Anthony Pettis Video: See Amazing Kick That Led to MMA Win
Anthony Pettis video reveals a thrilling end to a great fight in Glendale, Arizona last night.
Benson Henderson and Pettis pushed WEC 53 to five rounds before Pettis delivered what he calls "The Showtime Kick."
According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Pettis says he learned the kick in Milwaukee at a gym owned by Duke Roufus, a former world kickboxing champion.
“We have a cage and I thought, ‘You know, why not use it?’ You have to be creative and adapt,” Roufus said. “We work on that a lot and Anthony pulled it off at the right time.”
"We practice that all the time," said Pettis. "I've got 10 more of those kicks coming when I get to the UFC. How do you like that to end the WEC?"
The fight was the last in the history of World Extreme Cagefighting. After nine years, the WEC will now merge with the UFC.
Pettis won the favor of all three judges, 48-47, 48-47, 49-46, and improved his MMA record to 13-1. Henderson fell to 12-2.
The fight was back and forth all night, thanks in part to Henderson's tenacity.
"I just couldn't get my tempo going," Pettis said. "I got it going in the third round. It felt good. Ben Henderson is a tough dude."
Then, in the final round, Pettis delivered the Showtime Kick to Henderson's head.
“I saw it in Mortal Kombat once,” Henderson joked.
Pettis will now fight the winner of the Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard fight, which will take place in UFC 125 on New Year's Day at the MGM Grand. That fight, which will help further unify the UFC and WEC, will take place sometime next year.
