Total Nonstop Disaster? Jeff Hardy As TNA Champion Could Damage TNA For Good

Ryan FryeDec 13, 2010

In 1994 Jeff Hardy made his WWE (WWF at the time) debut, losing to Razor Ramon. He would become not only a World Champion, but the most controversial figure in pro wrestling today.

Hardy's troubles began in 2003 when he was released from the WWE for not showing up and would be released from TNA a year later, for the same reason.

On September 17 2008, He was stopped at the Nashville International Airport for being intoxicated and was not allowed to board the plane. This was in the midst of the biggest push of his career—despite that the WWE continued his push and eventually gave him the WWE Championship.

Drugs would once again become a problem in September of 2009. His house would then be searched and the following was found:  262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 soma prescription pills, 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He would be arrested on charges of drug trafficking and after being pushed back, the trial is on-going.

After he left the WWE, he was signed by TNA on January 4, debuting the same night. These drugs charges were known by almost everyone, but TNA didn't care. Not only did they not care, but they built the biggest storyline in the company's history around a man that is likely to end up in jail.

This gives negative publicity to an upstart company that is trying to compete with the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. It gives a black eye to everyone involved in the situation, and makes the rival (the WWE) look good. The same WWE that has a PG rating, a no-blood policy and a wellness policy.

I am not asking TNA to become PG Era 2.0, this has little to do with that. However, when your rival is creating a squeaky clean image and you have a man about to be convicted of a felony as your champion, that's not good.

In no way am I a "WWE mark", but I can assure you they would never put a championship on this guy at this point. Good luck, Dixie Carter, with the public relations disaster that is about to surround the face of your company.
