Transfer Talk: Top 10 Most Unlikely January Rumours
With the January transfer window fast approaching, the rumors are weeks into maturation.
Some can hold water, with evident situations like Emmanuel Adebayor or Robbie Keane pleading for a change. But others are thin and weak, hardly securing anyone's attention.
The midseason window is often an exciting time of change, with handfuls of transfer prospects and talks discussed everyday. But along with the potential moves, there is plenty of buzz around players that have no intention of a change in club.
A scoff is often the response at propositions like these, as they are the top 10 most unlikely January transfer window rumors.
Ashley Young
1 of 10
Aston Villa's lackluster from throughout the season may be a result of Martin O'Neill's exit from Villa Park just days before the season began.
The James Milner transfer saga left Villa with much to replace, and Ashley Young's name has been around the rumor mills since the beginning of the year.
Young did pledge his intentions to stay with the club early in the season, but has he experienced a change in heart in the last few weeks? The winger has a skill set that many clubs would find attractive, but those potential buyers will have to drop quite a fortune for the 25-year old.
Call Young the most likely of the least likely to be moved.
Ji-Sung Park
2 of 10
Ji-Sung Park is off to one of his best years with Manchester United since joining the club in 2005. In 18 fixtures in all competitions, Park has netted six goals, including four in league games.
With a short list of fit midfielders, Park has been a consistent option for Sir Alex Ferguson. With the South Korean's form seemingly on the rise, measured by his winning goal against Arsenal on Monday, it appears to be a long shot that the 29-year old is on the move out of Old Trafford.
Unless Sir Alex is planning a significantly unexpected shake up in the midfield, Park has made a case not to be the one in danger.
Ronaldinho
3 of 10
The Brazilian magician has failed to hold a consistent spot on a very talented AC Milan roster, sparking rumors of a move out of the San Siro.
A transfer back to Brazil or even the Los Angeles Galaxy, who have recently expressed interest in Ronaldinho, could be possible destinations, but all of that is still speculation.
The 30-year old reportedly has battled weight issues during the season, but despite the lack of consistent time of the pitch, it still remains unlikely that the superstar will leave the Rossoneri.
Mario Balotelli
4 of 10
Mario Balotelli continues to be a focal point of transfer talk, prolonged seemingly because of disagreements with the managing philosophy of Roberto Mancini, but what else is new?
After moving to Eastlands from Inter Milan for a wage contract close to "Rooney-money," circa £180,000 per week, rumors of the 20-year old transferring back to Italy have sprung.
It seems highly unlikely that the monster striker will make a January switch, as it looks doubtful that any club will want to harbor the fat contract of a relatively unproven asset that constantly pouts on the pitch.
Expect Super Mario to stay at Manchester City.
David Silva
5 of 10
The Spanish star's name has trickled around Europe in the last few weeks, but David Silva is beginning to find his groove amongst a wealth of top players on Manchester City's roster.
Although his playing time is relatively sparse compared to fellow summer signing Yaya Touré, Silva is a fabulous facilitator and chance creator in the final third and provides a highly talented spark off the bench.
With the money City spent on Silva during the summer, and accounting for his rising form of late, it is hard to imagine a scenario where City executives allow the 24-year old to move on from Eastlands.
Bastian Schweinsteiger
6 of 10
Bayern Munich's sluggish start to the German Bundesliga season ushered in rumors of a Bastian Schweinsteiger switch out of the club he has been a part of since 2002 with the second squad.
After a promising World Cup run, the German midfielder continued his good form into the season, totalling six goals and five assists in 23 total appearances for Bayern.
He recently vowed to stay with the club, but like the other big names in question, will it stop the clubs with deep pockets from tossing in a "see what happens" bid?
Andy Carroll
7 of 10
Andy Carroll is one of many starlets in the Premier League that has brought respectable attention to himself. His 10 goals in 17 league fixtures will do that.
But through the recent Chris Hughton sacking and the club's inconsistent form over the course of the season, Carroll pledged his future with the club.
Will that stop any potential bidders? The 21-year old striker would definitely present a lucrative signing, having demonstrated the capacity to finish goals with both his head and feet while possessing legitimate strength. Newcastle could easily shoo away buyers with a hefty transfer fee.
Wesley Sneijder
8 of 10
Why Wesley Sneijder's name has appeared on any list of transfer rumors is ludicrous.
The Dutch star followed a fantastic World Cup run with a two-year contract extension with Inter Milan, further cementing his place at the San Siro and in Italy.
Although the 26-year old attacking midfielder has yet to find the net in the Serie A this season, it will take an ridiculous transfer fee to pry Sneijder away from the Nerazzurri.
Alessandro Del Piero
9 of 10
The free kick maestro, from a couple of outlets, has been linked to a move away from Juventus.
But a Juve without an Alessandro Del Piero hardly seems like a realistic squad. The 36-year old captain has been with the club since 1993 and even remained on the roster during the 2006-2007 season when Juventus was relegated to the Serie B.
As the most capped Juventus player of all-time, Del Piero is going nowhere.
Gareth Bale
10 of 10
Mark Gareth Bale as the most unlikely player to be moved in January, consider him virtually untouchable. It would take an astronomical amount of money before Tottenham even entertain a bid, much less accept it.
Although Real Madrid have been rumored to have expressed interest in the Welshman, Bale himself has come out and said his future is with Spurs.
There is no surprise that the transfer talk has swirled around the 21-year old. His form so far this season has been superb, arguably one of the top performers in the Premier League in the first half.
