UFC 124 Results: Georges St-Pierre Outclasses Josh Koscheck To Retain His Title

To say Georges St-Pierre beat Josh Koscheck at UFC 124 is an understatement.

The Saint-Isidore, Quebec native obliterated his opponent and literally beat him to the punch from the opening bell. Prior to the bout, Koscheck made his way to the Octagon to a chorus of boos that only made him grin from ear to ear. Koscheck continuously provoked and mocked St-Pierre throughout the entire season of The Ultimate Fighter.

At the beginning of the fight St-Pierre came out and initiated the jab, repeatedly landing on the right eye of Koscheck, which forced him to take down the champion. However, St-Pierre got back to his feet and continued to pick apart the challenger.

Throughout the entire bout, St-Pierre initiated his jab and completely out struck Koscheck, causing Koscheck's right eye to swell up and close. From there, it was all St-Pierre. He mixed up his strikes and used his boxing to dictate the pace of the fight.

Contrary to what most fans and critics predicted, the bout was surprisingly contested on the feet for a majority of the time. While being renowned for his wrestling ability, St-Pierre was only able to successfully take down his opponent three times. Not that it mattered, however.

When it was all said and done, St-Pierre humbled Josh Koscheck in impressive fashion, and successfully defended the UFC Welterweight title.

What's next for Georges St-Pierre?: This is St-Pierre's fifth successful title defense and the French-Canadian is now undefeated in front of his hometown crowd, sitting at 2-0. He hardly received a scratch from his opponent and it's likely he will headline UFC 131 versus Jake Shields in Toronto, Ontario next April.

Should he get past the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, a highly anticipated super-fight between him and Anderson Silva could be on the horizon by the end of 2011.

What's next for Josh Koscheck?: A beating at the hands of Georges St-Pierre might not force Koscheck to retire, as the champion suggested, but it will keep him out of the title hunt. Koscheck will likely return by mid 2011 and look to remain competitive in the welterweight division.

A bout against striker Dan Hardy comes to mind, as well as a rematch with muay thai expert Thiago Alves that could retain some credibility for the American Kickboxing Academy standout.
