LeBron James vs. Trent Dilfer: Just Stop, LeBron
LeBron James just can’t help himself. For a guy with an image issue this bad, he sure likes to put himself out there a lot.
James’ latest questionable action, which is bound to draw criticism from the same media and general public he wants love from so badly, came via his “King James” Twitter feed. James tweeted last night about the disrespect Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was getting.
On SportsCenter, former NFL quarterback and current ESPN football analyst Trent Dilfer was pointing out the obvious issues in Manning’s last three games, which have seen 11 interceptions.
After seeing the segment, which wasn’t harshly critical in the least, James wrote on Twitter:
“Watching SC and Trent Dilfer is talking bad on how Peyton Manning is playing as of late! In his wildest dream could never ever do the things…Peyton does on the field. Good or bad! People get on TV and think they can say whatever they want! And it’s always former players! Crazy!!”
Now, we all know LeBron’s clear-cut issues with people talking badly about anyone. After all, that somebody one day may be him, and that wouldn’t be a good thing. Remember, LeBron wants everyone to give him a hug every morning. We can assume that was the reason behind his tweets.
What LeBron needs to understand, though, is that by going on record for this, he’s bound to get bashed. By all accounts, Dilfer is one of the more genuine and most likable personalities at ESPN. There are plenty of other analysts James could have picked to go up against if he’s looking for support from the public, which should go without saying at this point, given LeBron’s sensitivity.
If LeBron’s handlers truly want their boss to succeed, they’ll suggest to him that his legacy won’t be secured in 140 characters or less. Perhaps, James should turn off the television, shut down his computer and hit the gym.
After all, Michael Jordan never had a Twitter account.
