Gator Chomp'd: One Season Without Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer Resigns
So that seems to be the end of the Urban Meyer era in Gainesville as Meyer reportedly will resign to put a focus on his family.
Urban Meyer lasted one season without his golden boy, Tim Tebow, and only managed to suffer to a 7-5 record and 4-4 in tough SEC play.
Meyer did this last season resigning because of "stress related health issues" but, quickly returned to coaching the Florida Gators.
Tim Tebow's replacement, John Brantley, struggled this season throwing nine touchdowns for 2,020 yards but, also threw nine picks.
The question was raised about how Meyer would handle the loss of Tim Tebow and without him, it has been the hardest season for him since he took over as the Gators head coach. Without Tebow, Meyer is 16-8 and with him he is 48-7 with two national titles.
This season definitely did not help his stress related problems as his Gators struggled all year long and finally got blown out by rival Florida State, 31-7, in the final game of the season.
Urban Meyer rumors to the Denver Broncos will probably now start swirling and the fact that Florida has an opening, Jon Gruden rumors will also undoubtedly start up.
Urban Meyer's resignation should not shock anyone due to his health problems and the fact that this was his worst season since taking over. Urban Meyer has only had less then 13 wins in his tenure as Gators head coach twice before this season, finishing 9-3 in 2005 and 9-4 in 2007.
Meyer leaves with a 103-23 career record and two national titles. He also won two BCS bowl games, one as Utah head coach and one at Florida.
