NASCAR: 20 Ideas To Grow the Fan Base for 2011
The NASCAR community has been increasing for some time now, but it still has room for growth.
NASCAR may never reach the popularity of the NFL in the United States or receive the same sort of media attention because there are plenty of people who just don't find the sport appealing.
Here are 20 ways that NASCAR could expand it's fan base next season.
Shorten The Races
1 of 20
Most people who are fans of the sport already will not like this idea, but it may attract some new fans who currently complain that the races are boring and too long for their liking.
Expand To New Locations
2 of 20
NASCAR races take place in many parts of the country, but one place that does not have any tracks of note is the great northwest.
Washington or Oregon could use a NASCAR race and adding a track to either state would greatly expand the sport's fan base.
Travis Pastrana Full Time On The Sprint Cup Series
3 of 20
Pastrana is one of the greatest motorsports and X-games performers of all-time and there are few people who could generate the buzz that Travis could generate.
Forget the Nationwide Series, Pastrana should go straight to the big show and the Sprint Cup Series.
More Night Races
4 of 20
There is something about sporting events under the lights that makes it seem more meaningful, and NASCAR races are no different.
Lower Ticket Prices
5 of 20
The typical low-end ticket to a NASCAR race is $50, not bad when compared to other major sporting events, but also not cheap.
Making the races more affordable would surely generate more fans for the sport.
More Exciting Sponsors
6 of 20
NASCAR needs to get some new blood on the tracks in terms of sponsors, AARP and NAPA Auto Parts are nearly as old as the men who drive for them.
Let David Ragan Race The Truck
7 of 20
Dale Jarrett campaigned for it but he never got the chance, I think it's about time we let Ragan see how he can do behind the wheel of a truck.
More Right Turns
8 of 20
For everyone out there who says NASCAR is just a bunch of guys making left turns while going in circles, you should check out the two road races each season.
Watkins Glen and Sonoma are the two Sprint Cup road tracks that feature right hand turns, maybe more road races would put an end to that argument.
A New Sprint Cup Champion
9 of 20
Jimmie Johnson's run of five straight Sprint Cup titles has been not only impressive but record-breaking. With that said, it would be nice if someone else got a chance to get their name on some hardware.
Johnson's wins are great for fans of the No. 48, but not so great for other fans who have to turn to the NFL in search of parity.
Danica On The Sprint Cup Series
10 of 20
Danica Patrick hasn't been very successful in her brief stint on the Nationwide Series but NASCAR could definitely stir up some interest by letting her race on the Sprint Cup series.
A New Checkered Flag
11 of 20
This one is self-explanatory.
Prizes For The Fans Based On Race Winners
12 of 20
Depending on who wins a race the fans will go home with a different prize, if Matt Kenseth or Casey Mears visit victory lane then things might get out of hand once the hard alcohol is distributed.
A Kyle Busch victory would send fans home with some M&M's and a an extra pound or two, good thing his brother Kurt is looking out for everyone with Miller Lite.
Turn Back The Clock Race
13 of 20
A race featuring some old-timers like David Pearson and Ned Jarrett would surely be good for ratings and bring some interest to the sport.
Of course we know that senior citizens aren't the swiftest drivers so the race would be no longer than three laps.
Add Some Ammunition
14 of 20
If Jason Statham can do it, why can't Jeff Gordon?
Post-Race Fighting
15 of 20
From now on if there is an argument on the track, it is finished after the race in an all-out MMA style fight.
The winner receives an extra 20 points in the Sprint Cup standings.
I think Jeff Burton or Jeff Gordon would have loved to add some extra points to their total this season.
More Crashes
16 of 20
Just like fights in the NHL, or big hits in the NFL, people love to see crashes in NASCAR.
More Shots Of NASCAR Wives and Girlfriends During Races
17 of 20
I think we are starting to see a trend...
No More Caution Flags
18 of 20
Imagine a NASCAR race free of caution flags, it would be pure and utter chaos, and perfect for the viewing audience.
3-D Cameras Inside The Cars
19 of 20
3-D televisions are slowly growing in popularity and eventually more and more networks will have 3-D programs, what could be better than a 3-D camera inside a race car?
Allow Trades
20 of 20
Jimmie Johnson changed his pit crew for the season's final two races and it worked out well for him so why not allow teams to trade drivers, crew chiefs, or pit crews during the season?
