South America And Asia Will Vote For Spain/Portugal In 2018 World Cup Bid
CONMEBOL (which is the South American Football Confederation) have decided to cast their vote for Spain and Portugal for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010.
The vote comes as no surprise especially with the more than close relationships between the Iberian Peninsula (Span and Portugal) and their former colonies.
The announcement was made by Eduardo Deluca who is the Secretary General of CONMEBOL.
It also assures that the votes of three members of CONMEBOL in FIFA will be for Spain and Portugal.
The three members of the FIFA Committee who may vote for Spain and Portugal are Julio Grondona (President of the AFA-Argentine Football Association), Ricardo Texeira (President of the Brazilian Football Confederation), and Nicolas Leoz from Paraguay.
Asia is another continent that will be voting for the 2018 World Cup bid by Spain and Portugal. The news comes after FIFA found that that there was no colusion for votes.
Mohammed Bin Hamman (President of the Asian Football Confederation and native of Qatar), Worawi Makudi of Thailand, and Hani Abu Rida of Egypt have announced that they will vote for Spain/Portugal 2018 as part of the FIFA World Cup Committee.
Spain and Portugal are competing against England, Russia and the joint candidacies of Holland/Belgium for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The USA is competing against Australia, Qatar, South Korea, and Japan for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In other related news about the FIFA World Cup, The USA (especially Miami Florida) is gearing up for a national wearing of the US Soccer Team or any other teams from the USA on the day that FIFA selects the hosts for the World Cup.
It appears that many people have made plans to buy their US Soccer or MLS Sportswear for the occasion on the day after Thanksgiving.
