World champions Spain were blown away by Portugal on Wednesday, who avenged their last-16 defeat at the World Cup with a resounding 4-0 win.

Jorge Carlos Martins, Helder Postiga and Hugo Almeida were on target for Carlos Quiroz's men, with an own goal from Sergio Ramos adding to Spain's misery.

It was quite a result for Portgual, but as Cristiano Ronaldo will testify it should have been even more emphatic.

The 2008 Ballon d'Or winner was denied what would have been a truly special goal when Manchester United's Nani headed home his goal-bound chip from an offside position.

Ronaldo was furious, and Nani felt so bad he apologized to his former teammate after the game.

"After having time to think about it I apologized to Ronaldo. It was a great piece of play and I shouldn't have ruined it," Nani said.

But was Ronaldo's effort already over the line before Nani intervened?

Take a look at Ronaldo's disallowed goal and decide for yourself...
