UFC 123 Fight Card: What Quinton Jackson Must Do To Beat Lyoto Machida

Dale De SouzaNov 16, 2010

How do you talk MMA without mentioning Quinton "Rampage" Jackson?

He's the only man to have beaten Chuck Liddell twice, he's a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, and he's the man responsible for one of the sport's most famous knockout wins by way of a slam.

That plus he's always been a powerful fighter who is a good wrestler but who always looks to stand and bang with any opponents.

In the hype towards his bout against fellow one-time UFC Light Heavyweight throne-holder Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida, Rampage has admitted that he did a lot of talking leading up to his previous bout against "Suga" Rashad Evans.

Now, he's saying that he's just coming to Auburn Hills there to fight and that his fighting will be verbiage enough.

That's exactly what he has to do to shut down Lyoto's offense.

He has to come out the aggressor for three rounds and he has to put the pressure on Lyoto, but he better not bank on one shot to X out The Dragon.

There are other ways of being aggressive and hurting Machida.

Let's not forget that Rampage isn't exactly the most light-handed fighter at 205.

If he hits you, you're going to feel it whether you like how it felt or not, and Machida can bank on this happening before the fight ends.

Rampage can throw some heavy shots and he needs to throw some heavy shots to hurt Machida.

If he can take him down and ground-and-pound him out, that might be where the fight spells doom for Machida, unless the former champ's Jiu-Jitsu has increased since his loss to Shogun.

If it hasn't, Rampage may be the first wrestler to hand Machida a loss — a distinction that only Tito Ortiz has come close to achieving against the Karate master.
