Steve Addazio's Stupidity Has Spread To Rest Of Gators Organization
Before I begin, I have to say that I am not working against firesteveaddazio.com. I am all for it, and am working with it rather than against it. I mean, it will increase popularity of both sites, which is what my original plan was. After all, the more the better.
This motto is universal.
And it's always good- except in the case of he Gators' coaching staff.
Somehow, inexplicably, the Gators ENTIRE COACHING STAFF HAS OFFERED NO EXPLANATION FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA LOSS.
Read for yourself:
Pardon the language, but HOW THE F*** IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE AN ANSWER FOR AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON?!?!?!?!?!
Look. Urban Meyer is the best coach in the game right now. But if he wants to keep that label, he'd better do something quick about the offense.
And I'm not talking about the players.
I apologize for more offensive language to come.
But quite simply, Urban Meyer is getting p**** whipped by the dumbest coach in America.
There's no other way to say it.
Coach, if this is part of your new stress routine, then I love what you've done, thank you very much, but get out of here. Just leave. And take your idiotic friend with you. Then Florida can go after Dan Mullen, who's the genius who molded the offenses of the national championship teams of 2006 and 2008.
Obviously, the responses in the article by the Orlando Sentinel were crafted by good ole Steve. What other possible explanation is there? If somebody can think of one, please, go right ahead and put it in the comments box.
Addazio is known as a good guy in the locker room, with morals and fun to be around. Fine. But it wouldn't kill him to add some intelligence.
Oh, and by the way, Urban Meyer is officially Urban Liar. Again, I love Coach Meyer. But he flat out LIED when he said before the season started that the Gators would tweak their offense to fit John Brantley's style. Now he's burst into tears that it's all his fault, no doubt because Addazio ordered him to. Now Meyer is blubbering that he should have used all three quarterbacks against South Carolina. He says it will all be fixed against Appalachian State. But you know what? I don't believe him. I think Addazio will be nervous, so he will be more conservative than ever. I honestly believe Florida will lose to Appalachian State, unless Addazio grows a pair.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brantley's strength might be throwing the ball. Jeff Demps might be better suited to run outside, not up the gut.
But back to Addazio: Execution, so he claimed, was the reason for the loss.
Oh, I'm sorry, Steve, ( I cannot bear to call him 'coach') you're absolutely right. It is Jeff Demps' fault for getting squashed on dive plays ALL SEASON LONG. Never mind that he was hurt. Never mind that he cannot weigh 130 pounds soaking wet. Why was he hurt, you might ask? Because Addazio ran him 26 times against Tennessee- and 23 of those runs were between the tackles. This was so wrong that running backs coach Stan Drayton dared to stand up to King Steve and question his playcalling. This got him a minor rebuke from Addazio.
Another big issue I and all big Gator fans have with him is that he loves to stay on schedule- first down becomes 2nd and 6, which turns into a 3rd and 3 and a managable third down. The only problem with that is that the defense knows that since he married and sleeps with (and does other imaginable things with it), and since he's the good guy like I mentioned, they know that he'll do what all good guys would do- be loyal and stick with it through the worst times. And since the defense knows that a 4 yard play is coming, that's what they defend, so it turns into a one yard gain, or worse- a loss. One holding call, one sack, and the drive is shot. So sometimes, on first down, you have to try and get 40 or 50 yards. Be less predictable. I want to be a coach someday, but I shouldn't be able to predict Florida's every move before they make it.
Still another tragic flaw that Addazio possess is really hamartia- he cannot adjust to SAVE HIS FREAKING LIFE. What was that? Good question, (random reader- we'll call him Jack)!!! What WOULD he do if he discovered that he couldn't win a fight by trying to rip off somebody's fingers, while his enemy (and believe me, he has made LOTS of them) continues to punch his light out? I have a question for you now, Jack- what would YOU do if you were in that situation? If you said ANYTHING ELSE, YOU WOULD BE RIGHT. When Addazio's dive plays, baby screens, and (non)option plays fail, he goes RIGHT ON AND CONTINUES TO DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. Never mind the score. It just matters that the players do things Adolf Hit- I mean Addazio's- way. God help Brantley if he dares change the call in the huddle.
If you don't believe me, here is what you do. One late night, if you're really tired and want to be put to sleep, go to the SEC Digital Network, click on videos, click on full games, and try any of these: Florida-Miami(Oh), Florida-USF, Florida-Tennessee, Florida-Alabama, Florida-LSU, Florida-Mississippi State, or Florida-South Carolina. Have a friend take a stopwatch, and time how long it takes you to fall asleep.
But by far the most infuriating thing about Addazio is- what? There's something that pisses people off more than failing to adjust no matter how badly you're getting beaten?
Oh yeah.
Even more frustrating than that is that Addazio treats momentum like it's radioactive- he won't go out of his way to get it, but if it flies out of its way to land in Addazio's hands, (probably so it can get a few laughs at his stupidity) he throws it on the ground, stomps on it, and completely eviscerates it.
I cannot take credit for this remark, so I will give credit where credit is due. My friend Sarah Crandall is a senior at Princeton, and she doesn't know that much about football, but she knows enough to keep a conversation going for a minute or two (she knows who Tim Tebow is, she knows the 12 SEC teams... you get the idea). She is majoring in history.
But I quote Sarah Crandall VERBATIM: "Your playcaller sounds like the type who, if in battle, spotted the king of the enemy country with his back turned, and instead of capitalizing and killing him, just shot off one foot, and then gasped in horror, 'Oh, s***' and quickly ran away."
Damn right!!!
Addazio NEVER HESITATES TO HAND THE MOMENTUM BACK TO THE OTHER TEAM.
Let's use the SEC Championship from last year as an example.
Alabama is up 12-3. No thanks to Addazio, Tim Tebow hits David Nelson to cap a long TD drive to pull within 12-10 with 4 and a half to go in the second quarter. But Alabama's Mark Ingram goes 70 yards for a TD to make it 19-10, Crimson Tide. 'Bama has all the momentum going into halftime. Except that Tebow throws a beautiful 60 yard bomb to Riley Cooper with about 50 seconds left. Momentum- Florida.
Pause.
What does Addazio do here (Florida has one timeout)? Does he capitalize by running a trick play? Does he try to conserve time by running the option to the outside? Does he throw beyond the first down line to stop the clock? Does he take a shot at the end zone? Does he at acknowledge that Florida is so close?
No. In perhaps the dumbest move of his career, Addazio RUNS TEBOW UP THE MIDDLE, FOLLOWED BY TWO SCREEN PASSES. As the half expires, Caleb Sturgis drills an easy field goal.
Oh no!!! We've poked the big, bad 'Bear' (sorry, Alabama fans) in the back, and now it wants to kill us!!! What do we do- either SHOOT IT or run away!!!
Sadly, Addazio chooses to run away.
Once Alabama sees that Addazio is as stupid in reality as he is on film with his play calls, they load the box, and dare Tebow to beat them with a throw. And once he does finally throw, it's WAY too late. Javier Arenas picks off his desperation pass in the end zone.
Florida never scored again, and lost, 32-13.
Quick footnote on that game- FLORIDA RAN TWO OPTIONS THE ENTIRE GAME. Demps was thrown to once (he dropped it) and never carried it. Rainey never touched the ball at all. Brandon James touched it once (and voila! a 10 yard run).
Addazio needs to go. Plain and simple, he's got to go.
For the good of Gator Nation, he needs to be demoted back to offensive line coach, because when he wasn't pulling double duty with o-line and OC, he actually did a damned good job.
If Meyer cannot see this light, then AD Jeremy Foley needs to give him an ultimatum: Find a new playcaller or we'll find a new head coach. And we'll begin our search in Starkville, Mississippi.
Which just so happens to be the current home of a young man named Daniel Mullen.
