College Football Recruiting 2011: The Top Commitments Heading into November
October was the busiest month of recruiting since the summer.
With several major commitments, the landscape has changed quite a bit in the last 31 days.
You can check out a full breakdown of the November rankings for the top 25 classes here, but we'll focus on the individual talent in this section.
With running backs like Aarron Green and Mike Blakely headlining the commitments of the month, some solid talent has gone off the market.
Here's the breakdown of the top commitments of October.
10. Kelvin Fisher, S, Arkansas
1 of 10
Commitment: Arkansas, Oct. 23
Kelvin Fisher is a very versatile athlete that could play any number of positions on the next level.
He plays running back and safety in high school, but has been projected as a cornerback and wide receiver as well.
He's a difficult matchup on offense, as he's displayed great balance and body control. But his shiftiness is just as useful on the other side of the field.
9. John Jenkins, DT, Oklahoma State
2 of 10
Commitment: Oklahoma State, Oct. 25
At 6'4" and 340 pounds, Jenkins is a huge defensive tackle prospect with a ton of upside.
He's got nose tackle written all over him and is a rare talent at the position.
He's raw, but very athletic and agile, and can cover a ton of space from sideline to sideline. Once he figures out how to use better technique, he could be one of the top defensive linemen of the class.
8. Damiere Byrd, WR, South Carolina
3 of 10
Commitment: South Carolina, Oct. 20
Byrd is one of the most athletic prospects of the 2011 class.
He would be rated even higher if he was just a little bigger than 5'9" and 160 pounds. As it stands, he is a four-star wideout with about as much potential as any receiver in the class.
He has great straight-line speed and can put eye-popping moves on anyone. He also changes direction seemingly at will.
Byrd is a touchdown waiting to happen as a halfback, receiver or return man. If he was just a little bit bigger, he'd likely be a 5-star prospect.
7. Chris Barnett, TE, Arkansas
4 of 10
Commitment: Arkansas, Oct. 23
Barnett does it all at the high school level, playing both sides of the ball and displaying elite athleticism.
He's projected as a tight end because of his ability to block and succeed as a pass-catching threat, but there's a good chance he could be just as good at defensive end.
6. Shon Carson, RB, South Carolina
5 of 10
Commitment: South Carolina, Oct. 10
Carson has a very compact build and runs low to the ground. With the type of power he has, it makes him very difficult to tackle and one of the best runners after contact in the nation.
He also has great speed, with a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, solid lateral movement and the speed to get to the outside if he needs to.
5. A.C. Leonard, TE, Florida
6 of 10
Commitment: Florida, Oct. 17
One of the top tight ends of the 2011 class, Leonard runs very polished routes and has a great set of hands for a big man.
He's got great athleticism and moves smoothly down field. He also does a great job of extending his hands to catch the ball. His size makes him a constant mismatch for defenders.
4. Nickolas Brassell, WR, Mississippi State
7 of 10
Commitment: Mississippi State, Oct. 18
Brassell is a high-energy, competitive wideout who can get deep in a hurry.
He goes hard no matter what the situation. And when he's hot, he's one of the best playmakers in the country.
The problem is he tends to play out of control and needs to refine his route-running skills to be more than just a deep threat.
If he can figure out how to play under control and with more consistency, Brassell has the chance to be a potent force at the next level.
3. Dee Hart, RB, Michigan
8 of 10
Commitment: Michigan, Oct. 8
He's an electric playmaker who's faster on the field than his 4.5-second 40-time would suggest.
Hart has great balance, vision and change-of-direction ability. At 5'9" and 190 pounds, he also has a surprising ability to break tackles.
He may be undersized, but he's a compact and strong runner who can really dish out punishment.
2. Mike Blakely, RB, Florida
9 of 10
Commitment: Florida, Oct. 26
Blakely might be on the small side, but he makes up for it with great vision and an elusive style of running.
He's a four-star running back, but he's also a serious receiving threat out of the backfield. He has great hands that open up the passing game by using constant dump-offs and fade routes that he can break for long gains at any moment.
1. Aaron Green, RB, Nebraska
10 of 10
Commitment: Nebraska, Oct. 27
Aaron Green is the complete package when it comes to running backs.
He runs with purpose, can make the first man miss, gets down field in a hurry and breaks tackles with surprising speed.
He's undersized at 5'11", 185 pounds, so he needs to bulk up or he just won't stay in one piece at the next level. But that's about all there is not to like about this kid.
