NFL Coaching Hot Seat: Brad Childress and Others Who Deserve The Boot
Each year there are many NFL who under-perform and often times it is the head coaches who become the first scapegoat.
Sometimes its problems that have persisted for years and it simply becomes the last straw. Other times one decision can take a coach from sitting comfortable to the burning of the hot seat.
Brad Childress appears firmly on the hot seat given the soap opera that has been the Vikings season. Here are reasons why he and four other coaches should be given the boot.
Wade Phillips

It seems like time has finally run out for Phillips in Dallas. Years of solid regular season performances followed by postseason collapses kept Phillips hanging on by a thread year by year.
Now with a 1-6 start and a season that does not appear headed to the playoffs I think Phillips will not survive past this season. It is probably the right time for that move to be made as it is now clear the Phillips does not have what it takes to lift this team up to Super Bowl level, and that is always the goal in Dallas.
Phillips is known as a players coach so expect Owner Jerry Jones to bring in more of a disciplinarian to replace Phillips and change the culture in the Cowboys locker room.
Josh McDaniels

McDaniels came into Denver replacing a legend and with a "my way or the highway" attitude. First he ran QB Jay Cutler out of town and a year later star wideout Brandon Marshall went the same road as Cutler.
After getting off to a fast start in his first year, McDaniels' team fell apart down the stretch and missed the playoffs. So far in his second year his Broncos are off to a 2-6 start, including an embarrassing 59-14 loss to the rival Oakland Raiders.
There is also the curious move of selecting QB Tim Tebow in the first round of the draft, a spot that many thought was a big reach for a project QB.
In the end I think McDaniels will last another year, but in my opinion he should not be given that chance. He has alienated players and disappointed fans by producing a team that performs below its talent level.
Mike Singeltary

The fiery and strong willed Singletary made a lot of fans in his first years in San Fran, myself included. His decision to bench TE Vernon Davis along with his subsequent postgame rant appeared to have turned around Davis' career.
However this season the 49ers came into the season with high expectations and many people picking them to win their division. Instead they have gotten off to a 2-6 start, marked by close loss after close loss.
The Niners have consistently given games away with plain out dumb plays along with poor QB play. Although the QB play cannot be attributed to Singletary the undisciplined way in which his team has given games away certainly falls on his lap.
I'm on the fence as to whether or not Singletary will be retained because he clearly has some coaching chops but has simply not gotten the job done. Barring a fantastic finish to this season I would guess that Singletary is gone after this year.
Norv Turner

Turner has had a long successful career in the NFL, but his head coaching career has been very up and down. In San Diego Turner has had a lot of regular season success but some serious playoff failures.
I thought after last season's playoff loss to the Jets, in which the Chargers were heavy favorites, Turner would get the axe. Instead he has been brought back and the Chargers have gotten off to another slow start.
Even if Turner managed to turn this regular season into a playoff season, I do not think he should be brought back unless he carries this team to a serious playoff run.
Turner has had great teams in San Diego and has been unable to make a Super Bowl appearance. This year should be his last chance.
Brad Childress

The Brad Childress chronicles in Minnesota have been well chronicled and have turned into a real soap opera this year.
Last season Childress was able to lure Brett Favre out of retirement and they teamed up to lead the Vikings within a hair of a Super Bowl appearance. This season Childress did everything short of beg Favre to come back and take another shot at it.
Favre obliged but he has been a shell of what he was last season. It has certainly been reflected in the 2-5 start and it only appears to be getting worse. After the loss to Green Bay, Childress was critical of Favre's decision making and it appeared the coach-QB relationship was worsening.
This week Childress abruptly waived star wideout Randy Moss after the receiver's critical and bizarre comments about the team. It has been reported that the Vikings owner was unhappy with the way this situation was handled and that is never a good sign for a coach on the hot seat.
Unless he turns this season around drastically I think the axe will come down hard on Childress after this season and I think it will be deserved.
