Raptors Report Week One: Mixed Feelings After First Two Games
Every week, I will be doing something called a Raptors report, which will summarize the week's events and give them a rating. They will be released every Sunday, possibly Monday afternoons.
The Raptors didn't start the season the way they had hoped, dropping their home opener to the New York Knicks in what was a closely-contested match. But, the very next game, the Raptors got the win they needed and blew out the Cavaliers at home before heading out for their tough West coast road trip.
It was a disappointing game against the Knicks. The Raptors just couldn't hit shots when they needed to down the stretch, and the Knicks were a team that they should have beaten. The Raptors played much better against the Cavaliers and ran them right out of the building.
Record: 1-1
Performance on a scale of 1-10: 6.5
Positives
Andrea Bargnani has started to prove doubters wrong and has averaged 21 points through the Raptors first two games. Linas Kleiza and Leandro Barbosa have also been great, and Reggie Evans has been an absolute beast on the boards.
Defensively, this looks like a whole new team. By getting rid of Hedo Turkoglu and Chris Bosh, two defensive liabilities, this team looks much better already defensively.
Negatives
In the first game of the season, the offense had a hard time getting going. It shows that this team could be very inconsistent, because there is no one star that will bring it every game.
Amir Johnson was just awful in the home opener, and Jay Triano still hasn't figured out that David Andersen is not worth giving more minutes to than Amir or Joey Dorsey.
Jose Calderon does not look confident coming off the bench, and hasn't been aggressive taking it to the hole.
Overall, not a bad week, splitting against two average teams.
Ed Davis is anxious to return to the floor, and many fans are anticipating his return.
Be sure to look at next weeks report.
GO RAPS!
