Fantasy Football Week 8: Braylon Edwards of New York Jets a "Sell" Candidate
Braylon Edwards has been frustrating fantasy owners for the past few years. After exploding in 2007 for 80 receptions, 1,289 yards and 16 TDs, expectations have been high and results have been exceptionally low.
In 2008, Edwards played in all 16 games for the Browns, managing just 55 catches for 873 yards and three touchdowns. Needless to say, it was quite a falloff.
In 2009, he split time between Cleveland and New York. While he once again played in 16 games, he regressed even further, with just 45 catches for 680 yards and four touchdowns. You can argue that it took him time to acclimate himself to the Jets offense, but that’s just not really enough. Prior to the trade, he had just 10 catches in four games for Cleveland.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Known as someone who has had problems with drops, the numbers the past two seasons are certainly concerning.
However, in 2010 he appears to have rediscovered his form...at least a little bit.
In six games he has 21 receptions for 343 yards and four TDs. Granted, they are still a far cry from his 2007 success, but it is more production than fantasy owners could’ve expected. But can we expect it to continue?
Remember, Santonio Holmes missed the first four games of the season, leaving the Jets few options on the outside. Yes, Dustin Keller patrolled the middle of the field, but from the wide receivers, it was basically Edwards and little else.
With Holmes back, that completely changes. While Holmes has not yet fully acclimated himself into the offense, with time his production should increase. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him emerge as the favorite target of Mark Sanchez.
Speaking of Sanchez, while he looked good early on this season, he has failed to throw for at least 200 yards in his last three games. If the QB can’t produce, his receivers aren’t going to generate much in numbers either.
Also, the Jets are a run-first team, (with LaDanian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene) and, as the weather in New York worsens, they will probably run even more. It’s hard to imagine Edwards continuing to produce.
Obviously you may not have many takers in Edwards, but with the way he’s produced thus far you may be able to get lucky. Maybe someone in your league is willing to bite, just looking at the numbers. If you do, I would sell high on him in an instant.
What about you? Do you think Edwards can continue to produce? Would you sell him if you could?
