Tennessee Titans Vs. San Diego Chargers: Major Trap Game This Week in SD

Chad MintonOct 28, 2010

Everything is looking great for the Tennessee Titans heading into their matchup against the reeling San Diego Chargers, but a loss this week could set the tone for the rest of the season.

The Chargers are by far the most disappointing team in the NFL this season, thanks in large part to their lack of discipline on special teams.

At 2-5, the Chargers might be the best 2-5 team in NFL history, and the Titans have to keep that in mind. They're loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball, with Phillip Rivers leading the way.

If the Titans continue to play their aggressive style of football, then they should win this game. But if they let up the slightest bit, Rivers is good enough to make them pay through the air.

Whenever a team is as desperate as the Chargers are, they're dangerous, much like a wounded animal backed into a corner.

This is a classic trap game for the Titans because they're currently making a strong run to dethrone the Colts as the AFC South champion. That means they have to take care of business against a banged up Chargers team, and they have to avoid doing what they did in their Week Four loss against the Broncos.

Fortunately for the Titans, Rivers will most likely be missing his biggest threat at the wide receiver position in Malcolm Floyd. That's huge for a Titans secondary that ranks 26th in passing yards allowed.

On the other hand, the Chargers lead the NFL in passing offense, so the Chargers will look to guys like Buster Davis and Patrick Crayton to keep the passing numbers up.

You also can't forget the ever dangerous Antonio Gates, who will most likely be less than 100 percent against the Titans. He's still one of best tight ends in the game even when he's not at 100 percent.

If this game does become a shootout, the Titans will look to Kenny Britt to duplicate his career-best performance against the Eagles last week.

It's looking very probable that Kerry Collins will make his second-straight start. With the bye week coming up after this game, it's very possible that Jeff Fisher will give Vince Young the extended break to make sure he is healthy after the bye week.

After what Collins did last week, that decision is probably an easy one to make for Fisher.

If the Chargers weren't dealing with so many injuries on offense then I would have to side with the Chargers in this game, but since that is nowhere near the case, the Titans should take care of business in a moderately high-scoring game.
