BCS Standings 2010: The MVP of All 25 BCS Teams So Far
The BCS Standings for 2010 were released this week. With it, we now have a firm grip on the Top 25 teams around the nation.
Every great team is a sum of hardworking coaches, staff and role players. But those that find themselves amongst the elite have something else. A great team also has a fantastic MVP type player. He is someone who is counted on every week to pick up the big plays.
Here is a list of those MVP players for each team in the BCS's Top 25.
25. Virginia Tech (Tyrod Taylor)
1 of 25
Virginia Tech's quarterback Tyrod Taylor is one of the most versatile players in the nation. He can beat you with the pass or take off on foot.
He has over 1,300 yards passing with 12 touchdowns and 480 yards rushing.
24. Mississippi State (Chris White)
2 of 25
The surprise star for the Bulldogs has to be linebacker Chris White. He has quietly become one of the best defensive players in the SEC.
He was pivotal last Saturday with 11 tackles and caused 2.5 sacks.
23. Arkansas (Ryan Mallet)
3 of 25
The Razorbacks boast a powerful passing attack. Much of that has to do with the arm of Ryan Mallet.
Arkansas fans are holding their collective breaths that he is alright after suffering a concussion Saturday against Auburn.
22. Kansas State (Daniel Thomas)
4 of 25
Every team wants a running back that punishes the opposition.
Daniel Thomas has been the consistent reason teams fear the Wildcats' running game.
21. South Carolina (Stephen Garcia)
5 of 25
The Gamecocks seem to live and die by Garcia's arm.
The most effective player on the team has passed for 10 touchdowns and 1,326 yards on the season.
20. West Virginia (Geno Smith)
6 of 25
Geno Smith has been on fire this season. He is remarkably efficient, with 14 touchdowns and only two picks thrown.
He could very well be the best the Big East has to offer.
19. Texas (Garret Gilbert)
7 of 25
Texas's season has been tumultuous. They have lost in an upset rout by UCLA and have also beaten No. 5 Nebraska.
All the while, no one player has stepped forward to claim the top spot, until this past Saturday.
Gilbert ran in two touchdowns and possibly saved the Longhorns' season.
18. Arizona (Nick Foles)
8 of 25
The Arizona quarterback has been fabulous this season.
Sadly for Wildcats fans, they will have to find a new MVP for the next couple of weeks, for Foles suffered a sprained knee last Saturday.
17. Florida State (Christian Ponder)
9 of 25
The Seminoles have put up big points this year.
Though the running game has been solid, the 12 touchdowns and 1,200 yards passing by Ponder keeps them rolling.
16. Nebraska (Taylor Martinez)
10 of 25
Coming off a disappointing loss to Texas can't be easy.
But Taylor Martinez gives much to smile about in his versatility, passing for three touchdowns and running in 12.
15. Iowa (Ricky Stanzi)
11 of 25
Iowa is making some noise this year. Their lone blemish is a loss to Arizona.
The constant offensive production they have relied on comes from QB Ricky Stanzi. He has already passed for over 1,400 yards.
14. Oklahoma State (Justin Blackmon)
12 of 25
The Cowboys are undefeated this year. The biggest reason is that QB Brandon Weeded has one of the most reliable receivers in college football in Justin Blackmon.
13. Wisconsin (John Clay)
13 of 25
John Clay can run around you or through you, your decision. Either way he is going to get his.
He has done just that this season by already posting 11 touchdowns.
12. Stanford (Andrew Luck)
14 of 25
Being a Cal fan, I would just as soon skip this slide. However you cannot deny what Andrew Luck has meant to the Cardinal.
Already, he has posted over 1,500 yards and converted 16 touchdowns.
He is right in the thick of the Heisman race.
11. Missouri (Blaine Gabbert)
15 of 25
Missouri has one of the best defenses in the country, but I had to single out Gabbert and his fantastic season.
Gabbert did it again Saturday by throwing three touchdowns in a rout of Texas A&M.
10. Ohio State (Terrelle Pryor)
16 of 25
If the Buckeyes are going to get back in the title race, it will be behind the immense talents of Terrelle Pryor.
He is arguably the most gifted athlete in college football.
9. Utah (DeVonte Christopher and Jereme Brooks)
17 of 25
Jordan Wynn has had some issues with consistency.
He should be fine, though, as he has two reliable receivers in DeVonte Cristopher and Jereme Brooks.
Both are always threats for big yardage plays.
8. Alabama (Greg McElroy)
18 of 25
Greg McElroy has had a fruitful season so far. To get back to No. 1, though, he will have to add to his already solid stats.
He has passed for over 1,500 yards and has completed 11 touchdowns.
7. Michigan State (Kirk Cousins)
19 of 25
It was hard to single out any one person on the Spartans roster. Their run attack is one of the main reasons for their success.
But a continued rise up the rankings will be in the hands of quarterback Kirk Cousins.
6. LSU (Patrick Peterson)
20 of 25
With so many great weapons for LSU, it is hard to pick just one.
However, cornerback Patrick Peterson and his five interceptions are a huge asset for the Tigers. He is also one of the most feared kick returners in the nation.
5. TCU (Andy Dalton)
21 of 25
Andy Dalton is the main reason that TCU and their air attack is so much fun to watch this season.
The senior has 13 touchdowns on 1,450 passing yards.
4. Auburn (Cameron Newton)
22 of 25
Cameron Newton is putting up ridiculous numbers this season.
He has 13 touchdowns, and that is just passing. He has also run the ball in himself 12 times.
He is clearly the favorite to win the Heisman at the moment.
3. Boise State (Kellen Moore)
23 of 25
Right behind Newton in the Heisman race is Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore.
His passing production is just as good. He touts 16 touchdowns with only one interception.
2. Oregon (LaMichael James)
24 of 25
Oregon sits right in line to fight for the national title.
The main reason is their featured back LaMichael James. He has close to 900 yards rushing this season for nine touchdowns.
1. Oklahoma (Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles)
25 of 25
The class of the nation is bound to have more than one star.
The Sooners have one of the best passing games in the country. It is due to the dynamic duo of Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles.
Jones has passed for close to 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns. Eleven of those fell into the hands of star wideout Ryan Broyles.
