BCS Standings 2010: Who's Being Underrated by the BCS Poll?
The BCS ranking system, which released its first standings on Sunday, is a complete and utter joke.
A playoff system is the fairest way to determine College Football's National Champion, but for now, it's just not happening.
So we'll have to live with things as they are, and simply criticize the Botched Championship Schedulers (pretty good, eh?) until something changes.
Teams like the Wisconsin Badgers, who just knocked off Ohio State, the No. 1 team in college football, somehow manage to get the shaft in the polls for inexplicable reasons.
So without further ado, lets engage in some good ole fashioned BCS criticizin', by singling out the team's that were screwed over the most.
No. 13 Wisconsin
1 of 5The BCS had a really tough call to make when it came to deciding who to put as the Big Ten’s second-ranked team behind Michigan State.
The decision was clearly between Wisconsin and Ohio State, but the problem was their resumes were too close to call.
If only there was a way to settle it on the field.
Oh wait, didn’t these two teams just play the night before?!
And didn’t Wisconsin win by 13?!
The fact that the BCS screwed this one up actually makes me nauseous.
It’s as inexcusable as the OJ trial.
Actually, it’s even worse.
It’s as if OJ murdered his wife on prime-time national television the night before the trial.
No, even that doesn’t do this justice.
It’s as if OJ murdered his wife on prime-time national television the night before the trial, it was clear he did it after 20 minutes, and then the nation still sat there and watched him continue his destruction for 3 hours.
Because that’s what the Badgers did to the Buckeyes.
And they still trail Ohio State in the rankings.
At least Seth Myers and Amy Poehler don’t have to look far for their next “REALLY?!” segment.
Because all I have to say is, "OHIO STATE ABOVE WISCONSIN?! REALLY, BCS?!?!… REALLY?!?!?!"
No. 4 Auburn
2 of 5An undefeated SEC team with a Heisman-frontrunning quarterback is… underrated?
And they’re being hurt by their rankings in the human polls?
The BCS is messing up in ways I never could have dreamed of.
Cam Newton and the Tigers have beaten South Carolina (who beat Alabama) and Arkansas (who should have beaten Alabama), and right now their offense is clicking to the extent that it looks unstoppable.
Then again, it’s not like we should be weeping for Auburn.
If they win out (they’d have to beat LSU AND Alabama to do so), they will almost definitely make the championship game, and justice will be served.
But for right now, their ranking is a funnier than Tom Brady's haircut.
No. 17 Florida State
3 of 5In this year’s ACC, the Seminoles might as well be the new Boise State.
They play in a conference that is supposed to boost their national exposure, but after beating Miami, Florida State is left with a remaining slate of games rivaling that of the Broncos' conference schedule each year.
The Florida Gator’s downfall makes their matchup lose much of its weight, so the best chance the Seminoles have to make a statement will be in the ACC Championship game.
That will likely come against a Virginia Tech team that lost to James Madison, so there's not much for voters and the computers to drool over, there.
But watching Florida State, you can see that this team is miles ahead of anyone in their conference, and is among the top-10 teams in the country from a talent standpoint.
Their only loss came to BCS No. 1 Oklahoma, in an atypically sloppy performance.
Any team that looks this good in their wins and has only lost to the top team in the nation should be ranked higher than No. 17.
But it’s a shame they won’t get to prove it on the field.
No. 23 Arkansas
4 of 5Find me 22 teams that can outplay the Crimson Tide and Tigers for six quarters and I'll nominate Brett Favre for "most decisive" in this year's NFL yearbook.
That's what I thought.
If it weren’t for a couple of fourth quarter meltdowns, the Razorbacks would probably be sitting at No. 1 in the rankings with marquee wins over Alabama and Auburn.
It also didn’t help that their star quarterback, Ryan Mallett, couldn’t make it through the first half last week before being concussed (granted,Tyler Wilson barely missed a beat until the fourth quarter).
You can’t really bash the BCS too much for putting them here since they didn’t win either game, but it’s safe to say the Razorbacks are vastly underrated at No. 23.
And don’t worry, they’ll ascend to their rightful position sooner rather than later.
No. 18 Arizona
5 of 5Arizona has the nation’s No. 9 passing offense, and its No. 7 scoring defense, to boot.
The Wildcats have beaten Iowa, and only lost in a heartbreaker to Oregon State, possibly the best 3-3 team in College Football history (OK, at least the best this year…).
It’s an absolute crime that they are ranked below Stanford, who was routed by Oregon and hasn’t beaten anyone outside of their narrow escape at home versus USC (don’t even try and tell me UCLA or Notre Dame fit the bill of a good team).
But fortunately, the marvels of conference football will fix this injustice, as Arizona visits Stanford in Palo Alto on Nov. 6.
The BCS won’t be able to screw it up after that game has been decided.
Then again, you never know with the BCS…
