AFC South Rankings: What Fantastic 4 Character Represents The Houston Texans?
Three games into the 2010 NFL season, the AFC South features three teams at 2-1, the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, and Houston Texans.
The Jacksonville Jaguars sit at the bottom of the division with a record of 1-2.
The three teams sitting atop the division all look like legitimate playoff contenders, and the Jaguars could always pull a few upsets to ruin the hopes of some of those teams. Quite the four team dynamic if you ask me.
Well, Marvel Comics created a group of four superheroes back in the day that formed a fantastic group, aptly named the "Fantastic Four". Each superhero had his or her own special power that made them a force to be reckoned with.
Likewise, each of the AFC South teams has a special power that will make them formidable for the rest of the season. Here are the Fantastic Four heroes and the teams they represent:
The Invisible Woman: Jacksonville Jaguars
1 of 4
If an NFL game is played, but no one sees it, does it really count?
Not only are the Jaguars having trouble filling the stadium, they are routinely blacked out on television. Not many people are getting to see Jacksonville play.
They aren't really missing anything though. Both the Jaguars offense and defense were invisible last week in a 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
But, invisibility does have one good quality: it might cause some teams to look past them on their schedules. Write this down: the Jaguars will win a game late in the season against one of their division rivals that will keep them out of the playoffs.
The Thing: Tennessee Titans
2 of 4
The Thing's main powers are durability, strength, and endurance.
The Titans will need Chris Johnson to have all three of these traits if they are going to be serious playoff contenders.
Quarterback Vince Young and the passing game can't carry this team very far, so it all falls on the shoulders of Johnson.
Johnson needs to be durable and strong. One injury to him would spell disaster for the Titans campaign. They also need him to be able to endure an entire season like he did last year. If he wears down towards the end of the year, the Titans won't make the playoffs.
Mr. Fantastic: Indianapolis Colts
3 of 4
This one is pretty obvious. Mr. Fantastic's powers are intelligence, leadership, and the ability to stretch his body to incredible lengths and shapes.
Peyton Manning is the NFL's Mr. Fantastic. He is the smartest quarterback in the league and one of the best leaders. He also is able to stretch himself into whatever the Colts need him to be to win a ballgame.
The guy does absolutely everything for the Colts offense. Without him, the Colts are an 8-8 team. Period.
Only Aaron Rodgers and Adrian Peterson even come close to being as valuable to their teams as Peyton is to the Colts.
Just as Mr. Fantastic is the leader of the Fantastic Four, the Colts are unquestionably the leaders of the AFC South.
The Human Torch: Houston Texans
4 of 4
The Human Torch is able to generate flames and fly.
This sounds a lot like the Houston Texans offense. When Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, and Arian Foster get on a role, they seem to be flying past their opponents.
And if Johnson or Foster get in the open field? Just watch the flames as they soar by on their way to the end zone.
On fire is also an accurate way to describe the Texans start as a whole. Nobody, and I mean nobody, expected the Texans to start off the season with a win against the Colts.
Not only did they win that game, they won it with style, thoroughly beating Indy in every aspect of the game.
They sputtered out last week against the Cowboys, but they'll bounce back and continue to burn up the NFL on the way to their first playoff appearance in franchise history.
