Q Ratings: Breaking Down The 20 Most Hated Athletes Today
You'd think having world-class talent would be good enough to capture the love, respect and admiration of a global audience.
However, as some of the athletes on this list have come to find out—with fame and popularity comes the unenviable task of dealing with haters.
It's a tough task to stay loved.
Who are on the list? Forget the Q Scores, let's just break it down.
Here are 20 of the most hated athletes today.
20. Peter Crouch
1 of 20
Standing at 6'7" tall, his long and lanky build is a rarity among soccer players.
Although his mechanics are strong, there's just something that doesn't sit well about his clumsy look and big paycheck.
Most recently he was rumored to have spent a weekend in Spain with a teenage prostitute, while his super-hot fiance Abbey Clancy was at home.
To top it off, she just confirmed that she's pregnant with his child.
19. Rajon Rondo
2 of 20
He was a first-time All-Star, First Team All-Defense last season and widely viewed as a rising young star.
But Rondo gets a lot of hate for his cockiness and tendency to be extremely combative with opposing point guards, such as Kirk Hinrich and Chris Paul.
There's definitely a shortage of love for Rondo in Chicago, New Orleans, and especially Los Angeles.
Although Bostonians may love his fire and talent, they're probably still trying to figure out why he can't shoot free throws and get a consistent jump shot.
18. Gilbert Arenas
3 of 20
What do you do when you don't want to pay back a gambling debt?
Draw your weapon.
Sounds like a scene from the Wild Wild West.
But this actually happened inside an NBA locker room last season, and Arenas was the man who allegedly pulled the gun first.
That behavior was a big disappointment for fans who expect more out of professional athletes and star players. Now he'll be busy trying to rebuild his reputation.
17. Cristiano Ronaldo
4 of 20
He's a great athlete who is loved for his ability to play the game. However, at the same time, fans have found many reasons to hate him.
The guy plays soccer with an air of arrogance that does not endear him to those who follow the sport.
Add to that his well-documented relationships with models, actresses, even prostitutes—and this pretty boy doesn't really win over many with his character.
16. Shaquille O'Neal
5 of 20
The Big Shamrock, as he'll be known this upcoming NBA season, has played for six NBA teams.
He's the kind of player you can't help but like and then hate just soon enough. It's happened plenty of times in his career.
His quotes are memorable and hilarious, but his mood swings can be distracting and have been known to divide a locker room.
As a player, he can be dominating when motivated but dead weight when he loses interest.
15. Floyd Mayweather
6 of 20
This past September, Pretty Boy Floyd released a hateful, racially motivated rant about Manny Pacquiao over the Internet which further soured his perception among fans.
Then shortly after that, he found himself jailed and arrested on felony theft charges and a domestic violence complaint from his ex-girlfriend.
He allegedly attacked and threatened his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, during a dispute.
If convicted, he could face 1-10 years in prison, and the odds of a highly-anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will greatly diminish.
Not a good time to be Mayweather.
14. Roger Clemens
7 of 20
Plenty of baseball players have admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs in order to improve their play on the field.
There's a list that includes Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez.
But the Rocket refuses to join his contemporaries.
Either he's amazingly stubborn or he's delusional.
Regardless, his strong denial of the Mitchell Report allegations has caused him to lose credibility and even fans.
13. Kevin Garnett
8 of 20
In his younger years, he was an all-around player capable of making his presence felt on offense and defense. That was Kevin Garnett, former NBA MVP.
Since his production has decreased with age and injuries, now his impact is more noticeable in how he antagonizes opponents with those elbows, gets technical fouls, and berates fans with not-so-kind words.
Garnett has always been a trash-talker, but it wasn't easy to hate him as The Kid. Now, as The Old Kid, it's been open season for hate and dislike for the guy.
12. Manny Ramirez
9 of 20
Manny is a character and definitely marches to the beat of his own drummer.
He'll win you over with his charm and humor, but sometimes marketability doesn't necessarily win games.
While with the Red Sox, he openly showed disrespect for management with a mock trade message.
As a Dodger, he likened his value to the rising gas prices.
Yes he's a likable guy when he's at the top of his game, but he also has a tendency to wear out his welcome, thereby gaining a lot more haters in the process.
11. Barry Bonds
10 of 20
There's plenty of evidence that supports the argument that Barry used PED's during his career.
Yes, he's hated for that.
However, he wasn't really that personable to begin with. His career stats have been impressive, but his reputation as a selfish, abrasive egomaniac is also well-known.
Aside from San Francisco, Bonds has had more haters than lovers wherever he went to play baseball.
And yes, he's still hated to this day, even in retirement.
10. Alex Rodriguez
11 of 20After signing a 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yankees, it's clear that fans and the team have high expectations.
However, A-Rod has constantly struggled to be the team's best player. In fact, he got a lot of grief in New York for failing to deliver, before winning the 2009 World Series.
Maybe was he's trying too hard, maybe he's over-thinking.
Despite the World Series ring, A-Rod still continues to be hated.
Considering some of his actions it's easy to understand why. Just this year he's irked Dallas Braden for walking over the pitching mound and breaking one of baseball's unwritten rules.
9. Sean Avery
12 of 20Hands down, he has to be the most hated man in hockey.
He's been known to pester goalies around the crease, irritate fans with NFL-like goalscoring celebrations, and take jabs at fellow NHLers and ex-girlfriends on national television.
Watch the video, see for yourself.
A true class act.
8. Terrell Owens
13 of 20He's known for his talent, but also for his temper tantrums.
It's no surprise that TO has had painful and often heated breakups with his former teams and teammates.
Think of a spoiled child who doesn't get a toy he wants. That's TO when he's not happy.
This video never gets old. Enjoy!
7. Chad Ochocinco
14 of 20
Ochocinco has had a busy offseason.
From competing in Dancing with the Stars to debuting a new reality show The Ultimate Catch to the release of an Ochocinco branded cereal: OchocincO's.
He's no stranger to attention and he's definitely loving every bit of the attention he's getting. While the rest of the world doesn't necessarily have as much appreciation for Ochocinco, as Ochocinco himself.
Now that his new breakfast cereal apparently directs people to call a toll-free number that was actually a sex hotline, I have to ask: Was that just another play to get people keep talking about him?
6. Ben Roethlisberger
15 of 20
Two sexual assault allegations in two years has tarnished Big Ben's reputation.
His most recent accuser was a 20-year-old woman who claims that he attacked her in the bathroom of a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub.
Despite having no formal charges filed against him, Roethlisberger was suspended for six games to start the season (later reduced to four games).
The trouble he got himself into has even lost him the respect of his teammates in Pittsburgh, who elected not to give him the captaincy to the team.
5. Kobe Bryant
16 of 20
It's been nearly a decade since allegations surfaced of Bryant's assault against a 19-year-old concierge from Colorado. He's also three seasons removed from an infamous trade demand that could have sent him to the Chicago Bulls
Those lowlights may still linger in the minds of fans, but now he's also hated for continuing to be good and successful on the basketball court.
After three straight appearances in the NBA Championship and back-to-back wins, his total is now at five.
With so much attention from his recent string of success, fans from the other 29 teams in the league have plenty of reason to dislike the guy.
4. Brett Favre
17 of 20
To retire, or not retire? That is the question that has been running through Brett Favre's mind for the last five seasons.
Just the fact that he's been so indecisive about ending his career has caused many people to grow impatient and consequently hate him.
Even former teammates have expressed that his back-and-forth struggles with retirement has been a distraction.
When he decided to resume his career as a member of the Minnesota Vikings last year, he broke the hearts of people in Green Bay—where his fan base is the largest.
3. Michael Vick
18 of 20
The Q Scores Company have revealed that according to their studies, Vick is the most hated athlete today.
But that needs to be updated to reflect his increase in popularity from two weeks of playing on the football field.
He's a convicted felon and served his time in jail for being involved in a dogfighting ring. As a result, his popularity dropped and he became widely despised for being cruel to animals.
And Vick is playing with a newfound purpose and humility that most people don't even remember seeing from his younger years. Can he really turn his popularity around?
With another weekend of football to play, he'll get another shot to win over more fans.
2. Tiger Woods
19 of 20At first, he was resented by a select few for being rich, successful, and good at his sport.
Then he managed to alienate a majority of society when word got out that he was cheating on his beautiful trophy wife, Elin Nordegren.
It wasn't just one woman; his mistresses numbered at least a dozen.
If you've seen him on the golf course, or somewhat still care for the guy, you can tell that he hasn't been the same player since.
1. LeBron James
20 of 20
This was definitely a bad summer for LeBron with respect to popularity—which definitely took a beating.
Starting with his decision to collaborate with ESPN and broadcast "The Decision," which was widely-perceived as an ego-stroking marketing ploy.
Now he's making news again by saying that race played a role with regard to the backlash he received after making his decision to move to South Beach.
As a result of those comments, LeBron probably became even more hated than ever and therefore needs to be on the top of this list.
The bottom line is this: LeBron needs to learn to stop running his mouth and start letting his game do the talking.
Then he might be able to win some fans over again.
