Chicago Bulls Training Camp Surprises: Taj Gibson Working on Three-Point Shot
While the Chicago Bulls and their new free-agent signings have been a hot topic this summer, many are forgetting one of the Bulls players from last year that played a significant role for them throughout the bulk of the season. No, not Derrick Rose or Joakim Noah (those are givens). The player is actually Chicago Bulls sophomore Taj Gibson.
According to reports from Bulls training camp, Gibson has actually been working on his three-point shot. As unlikely as it may seem, Gibson has stated that it's looked pretty good.
Here are some of the questions the media asked Gibson, as well as his response.
What have you worked on this off-season?
Taj: "I've been shooting threes actually. Last season Vinny and his staff wanted to see me step out to 18 and eventually three point range. This coaching staff is helping me work on threes, and this staff is helping me work on it."
How's your three look? Are we going to see it this year?
Taj: "It looks good, but it's still probably a year away. They changed my whole jump shooting form to a new, easier, quicker form. I'm looking forward to using it."
So, as you clearly see, Gibson has not shied away from letting people know that he's working on becoming a stretch four. Just the thought of Gibson having a decent three-point shot in his arsenal is quite scary itself.
Last year, Gibson showed that he could knock down the 15 foot jumper with consistency. Now, if he adds a three-point shot, it would help the Bulls immensely as they could always use another shooter from beyond the arc.
It's hard to envision Taj Gibson becoming a stretch four, similar to Rashard Lewis, but stranger things have happened.
For now, this Bulls secret should be kept under the radar until Gibson is confident and ready to expose his three-point range to the NBA world.
He did say it's still a year away.
