UFC 119 Results: Ryan Bader Wins, What's Next for Antonio Rogerio Nogueira?

Andrew GladstoneSep 26, 2010

At UFC 119 Ryan Bader kept his unbeaten streak alive and improved his record to 13-0 with the win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Bader won the decision, but the Indianapolis crowd just seemed unamused and there was no love for the "Ultimate Fighter" season 8 winner.

Rogerio looked sharp in this fight despite the loss, and I don't believe his stock really fell too much in this fight, as Rogerio was still able to outbox Bader and stuff the majority of his takedowns.

Most websites ranked Rogerio in the top 5 in the light heavyweight division prior to the loss to Bader, but I think he'll still make his way to the middle of the bottom of the top 10 at the lowest.

“I think sometimes when you go into some of these markets the people expect these guys just to run directly into each other," Dana White said at the UFC post-fight press conference.

"Start banging and don’t stop until the bell rings. It’s like the Nogueira/Bader fight. What you have to understand is these are two of the top guys in the world going in there and trying to win with a lot on the line. There was a lot of strategy in that fight. Nogueira is a tough guy. He did a great job defending the takedowns. Bader is a young, up-and-coming guy fighting a guy with a ton of experience. I thought it was a good fight. There was a lot of bitching about that decision too. Believe me, I’ll be the first one to tell you who I think won or didn’t win a fight. I think Bader won that fight.”

Bader acknowledged that he was going for a more cautious approach against the dangerous Nogueira, and stated how he felt he was greatly challenged both on the ground and standing.

“I felt great. It was an honor just to be in the same octagon with him let alone pull out a win." Bader said after the fight.

"I felt great going in. In the second round he hit me with a big knee. It kind of took me out for a little while. I just fought through it. He’s a dangerous fighter on the feet and on the ground so you have to pick your poison."

Rogerio may have lost but he has nothing to hold his head in shame about.

I believe that the UFC will still acknowledge that Rogerio is still a factor at 205, even with the loss to Bader, because of how much he was still able to land on Bader.
