College Football: Miami Hurricanes Easily Blow By Pitt Panthers Thursday, 31-3

Benny VargasSep 23, 2010

Is that what you call the 19th ranked team in America? Voters may have to reconsider how far they dropped the Hurricanes after their Week 2 road loss in Columbus.

Miami barely broke a sweat and still beat Pitt by 28 points. Did we mention they were on the road? That's the kind of score and performance that you expect from top five teams, to go into a hostile stadium, play an average game, and still win big.

One week into the prediction and the Hurricanes seem to have vindicated the faith, in saying they're going undefeated the rest of the year.

This was the perfect game for Miami because while it was an easy win, it also left a lot of room for improvement. Hurricane coaches will have plenty of breakdowns and mistakes to show during film study.

While Miami's offense left much to be desired, the defense is starting to look as though it can be a dominant unit. The Hurricanes forced the Panthers into seven three and outs during Pitt's first eight possessions.

A road victory was anticipated for the favored Canes, but it was the manner in which they just had their way with a preseason ranked team like Pitt that was unexpected.

The Hurricanes showed that they are an extremely talented team on both sides of the ball. They made some big plays on offense but it was the defense that led the way.

Miami's defenders refused to allow any long drives and made several key sacks, along with picking off a couple passes.

Quarterback Jacory Harris suffered a scare early in the fourth quarter after taking  a hard hit, which forced him out for a play. Luckily for Miami fans, he appeared to shake off the pain and finish off the game.

Still, this was another inconsistent performance by Jacory, who was looking to bounce back from his poor performance against Ohio State.

Travis Benjamin finished with six catches for 96 yards and a score. Leonard Hankerson caught his third touchdown of the season in the third quarter.

While Damien Berry led Miami with 87 yards rushing and a touchdown, Lamar Miller also scored and showed flashes of the talent/ability, which has many Cane fans anointing him the next "big" thing.

Overall we saw a team which still hasn't played up to its capabilities. Look for Miami to continue to pick up steam next week when they head to Death Valley, to take on the Clemson Tigers, who beat them last year in overtime.
