And The Winner Of The 2010-2011 Rookie Of The Year Award Is......NOT JOHN WALL
""
The remaining "haze" created by LeBron's fiery defection from Cleveland to Miami this summer has rocked the world and clouded the vision of many NBA fans and experts alike. Even at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue the thermostat displayed 212 degrees farenheit. Luckily the NBA season begins in the October and ends in June as the cool weather will be needed to offset a whirlwind 2010 Summer of free agent player movements and the arrival of the overall number one selection John Wall.
Many people believe that the lightning fast Wall, whose teammate is the infamous NBA gunslinger Gilbert Arenas, will run away with the 2010-2011 Rookie Of The Year award. I agree Wall is exciting and explosive and teaming him up with Agent "Hero" will put butts in the seats and sell merchandise but as far as more wins.....not gonna happen. J-Dub will use this season to learn the rigors of NBA life and the things he need to work on next summer. He will play many minutes and learn on the job but hold on before you hand over the award. There is another player who was not drafted at all this year but will emerge victorious as the Most Valuable Newcomer! Allow me to re-introduce you to him "Sooner" than later. The uncomparable Mr. Blake Griffin!
Oh how soon we forget. In 2009 Blake was the first pick in the draft and he was also college basketball's national Player Of The Year. He was to storm the NBA and make an immediate impact for his team until a knee injury suffered in preseason derailed the freight train cometh. So, consider this, a young, stronger, hungrier Griffin with an NBA year of learning and understanding under his belt. A year of experiencing the rigors of travel, fanfare and true NBA work ethic. A year of sizing up your competition. Whew! I think Blake can easily be a double-double player in this league with his skills and athleticism. Throw in the enormous marketability factor and his commitment to work hard and improve, we may be in for a special treat NBA fans.
Now don't get it twisted. I'm NOT saying John Wall won't compete and be tallied for votes on the ballot. He will give us some memorable highlights to enjoy but when you look at overall impact with what you bring to the table, I confidently believe that Blake will "eat" first.
