SEC Football: Power Ranking The Receivers Heading Into Week 4
The SEC always has an abundance of big-time players at the skill positions: quarterback, running back, linebacker, and defensive back
Surprisingly, the conference hasn't produced many breakout wide receivers. The only ones that come to mind are Hines Ward and Percy Harvin.
Georgia WR A.J. Green, a preseason All-American selection, was suppose to be the pass catching star of 2010, but he has yet to play due to a four-game suspension.
Still, the SEC has its share of speedy receivers shredding defenses early in the 2010 college football season. Here are the 10 best heading into Week 4.
No. 10 Randall Cobb, Kentucky
1 of 10
Height: 5-11
Weight: 186 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hometown: Alcoa, TN
Although Cobb is not a pure receiver and can have a case of the drops, the passes he holds on to tend to go for first downs and touchdowns. The All-SEC first-team selection is picking up where he left off last season.
Against Akron, Cobb scored his 28th career touchdown. He moved into second place on Kentucky's career touchdowns list behind Craig Yeast (1995-98), who had 32.

Receptions: 12
Yards: 160
Touchdowns: 2
No. 9 Darvin Adams, Auburn
2 of 10
Height: 6-3
Weight: 185 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hometown: Kennesaw, GA
Adams is Cameron Newton's favorite target, especially on third downs. His ability to make tough catches in traffic make him a valuable possession receiver. Four of Adams five receptions in Auburn's comeback victory versus Clemson were for first downs- the other was a touchdown.
Games: 3
Receptions: 10
Yards: 214
Touchdowns: 2
No. 8 Deonte Thompson, Florida
3 of 10
Height: 5-11
Weight: 203 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hometown: Belle Glade, FL
The Gators receiving corps don't have the standout talent as in years past, but Thompson has been the most productive so far this season.
With slot receiver Chris Rainey suspended indefinitely, expect QB John Brantly to target Thompson more, especially in the red zone.
Games: 3
Receptions: 13
Yards: 162
Touchdowns: 0
No. 7 D.J. Williams, Arkansas
4 of 10
Height: 6-2
Weight: 251 lbs.
Class: Senior
Hometown: Little Rock, AR
The first of three Razorbacks on this list, Williams has soft hands for an athlete his size. He primarily works the middle of the field, holding on to passes while taking a big hit. But he also versatile enough to contribute in other areas.
Games: 3
Receptions: 14
Yards: 173
Touchdowns: 0
No. 6 Markeith Summers, Ole Miss
5 of 10
Height: 6-3
Weight: 205 lbs.
Class: Senior
Hometown: Olive Branch, MS
The speedy fifth-year senior is a deep threat that can stretch the field. As QB Jeremiah Masoli gets more comfortable with Ole Miss offense, Summers will see more deep balls coming his way.
Games: 3
Receptions: 10
Yards: 235
Touchdowns: 2
No. 5 Kris Durham, Georgia
6 of 10
Height: 6-5
Weight: 211 lbs.
Class: Senior
Hometown: Calhorn, GA
Durham seems to have recovered from the torn labrum in his left shoulder that sidelined him all of last season.
With All-American WR A.J. Green serving a four-game suspension, Durham has emerged as QB Aaron Murray's go-to guy. He had 101 yards on five catches in the lost to Arkansas. Durham won't be lost on the depth chart when Green returns to the team.
Games: 3
Receptions: 13
Yards: 260
Touchdowns: 1
No. 4 Julio Jones, Alabama
7 of 10
Height: 6-4
Weight: 220 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hometown: Floey, AL
With his size and speed, Jones is the biggest deep threat in the SEC, maybe even the country. He is rarely tackled by a lone defender and consistently gets behind the coverage.
The only reason Jones is fourth is because of the system Alabama plays. In a more pass-happy offense, his numbers would likely resemble Randy Moss' days at Marshall.
Plays with passion on the field.
Games: 3
Receptions: 15
Yards: 248
Touchdowns: 2
No. 3 Greg Childs, Arkansas
8 of 10
Height: 6-3
Weight: 217 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hometown: Warren, AR
With a Heisman trophy candidate in QB Ryan Mallet throwing the ball, it's easy to think Childs' numbers are just a by-product of Mallet.
But Childs' ability to execute the hot routes against the blitz and break tackles after the catch (as he did on the 40-yard game-winning touchdown against Gerogia) shows he is a skilled playmaker in his own right.
Games: 3
Receptions: 19
Yards: 254
Touchdowns: 3
No. 2 Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina
9 of 10
Height: 6-4
Weight: 233lbs.
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: St. Matthews, S.C.
How important is Jeffery to the Gamecocks passing game? He accounts for 52.6 percent of South Carolina's receiving yards this season. So while Steve Spurrier might not have confidence in QB Stephen Garcia, his faith in Jeffery grows by the game.
Games: 3
Receptions: 19
Yards: 306
Touchdowns: 0
No. 1 Joe Adams, Arkansas
10 of 10
Height: 5-11
Weight: 190 lbs.
Class: Junior
Hoemtown: Little Rick, AR
On a receiving corps full of playmakers, Adams has been the best so far this season. He gets in and out of seams easily and is elusive in open space. He is also a tough receiver, willing to put body on the line to haul in catch while taking a hit (as demonstrated in this photo).
