Thoughts:

  • Is Michael Vick a usable option this week, taking on the Detroit Lions?  With his ability to run the ball, as well as the Lions deficiencies in covering running backs out of the backfield (we saw Matt Forte run rampant in Week 1), things certainly appear to be in his favor.
  • While Jake Delhomme has not been officially ruled out, it certainly appears to be a foregone conclusion at this point.  Those in deeper formats certainly should be looking at other options.  His replacement, Seneca Wallace, is a huge gamble, and one not worth taking.
  • The Jets are saying that Darrelle Revis will shadow Randy Moss.  That’s probably smart, but it leaves Wes Welker to work on Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson.  Is there really a reason to be worried about Tom Brady’s production?  Sure, knock him down from the Top 5, but he still should be considered a must use option in all formats.
  • The more I think about Mark Sanchez, the more worried I become.  While the Patriots secondary may be weak, until Sanchez proves that he can produce, he’s a difficult player to trust.  Sure, he could be worth the gamble as a low-end QB2 in two-quarterback formats, but those are the only people who should be pondering a move on him.
  • Kyle Orton, to me, is a real wild card.  He’s not a big-armed quarterback, yet he had six completions of at least 20 yards in Week 1.  In 2009 he had 43 (less then three per game).  I wouldn’t necessarily expect him to be able to continue that type of production, but you never know.  It’s an intriguing group of wide receivers around him and a potentially positive matchup.
