Danny FlynnSep 10, 2010

We have a ton of exciting high school football matchups taking place all throughout the country this weekend.

From key rivalry games to interstate bragging rights specials, there are a host of games that feature some of the best and most coveted recruits in America.

Here's a look at the games this weekend that involve some must-see recruits.

Recruit to Watch: RB Malcolm Brown

Steele’s Malcolm Brown, a 6‘0" 220 lb Texas commit, is ranked by both Scout and Rivals as the best running back in the nation.

The powerfully built Brown is a downhill runner, who is a load to bring down in the open field. His running style has been compared favorably to that of former Texas running back Cedric Benson, while his body has many people thinking Adrian Peterson all over again.

He’s not going to be a highlight reel big play threat; instead the bruising Brown is the type of back that can eat up the clock and pick up first downs at the college level.

Redemptorist (LA) Vs. Patterson (LA)

Recruit to Watch: OL La'el Collins

This game will be broadcast tonight on ESPNU at 8 p.m. from John L Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

It gives everyone around the country the opportunity to see one of the best offensive tackle prospects of the 2011 class, Redemptorist's La'el Collins.

The 6'4", 285 lb. Collins is a powerful run blocker who has already committed his services to the LSU Tigers.

Rivals ranks him as the best tackle in the nation while Scout feels he is the second-best tackle behind Dematha Catholic's Cyrus Kouandijo.

Recruit to Watch: QB Darius Jennings

Darius Jennings is coming into tonight’s game with Don Bosco at Morgan State off arguably the biggest win of his high school career last week.

Jennings led Gilman School of Baltimore to a 28-7 upset over nationally ranked Good Counsel (Olney, Maryland). The 6‘0", 180 lb. quarterback ran for 142 yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory.

Jennings is a terrific athlete, who is rated as a 4-star prospect by both Scout and Rivals.

He is mainly being recruited as a wide receiver prospect by colleges.

Some of the schools that have given him offers include Ohio State, Penn State, PITT, UCLA, Maryland, Connecticut, and Boston College.

Recruit to Watch: RB Savon Huggins

Savon Huggins is the best prospect New Jersey has to offer this year. He plays for a St. Peter's Prep team that has produced some quality recruits, such as Florida’s Will Hill, in recent years.

The 6‘0", 200 lb Huggins is ranked as a top 10 running back by both Scout and Rivals, and offers up an exciting blend of size and speed.

Huggins comes into this season after rushing for over 1,500 yards and 22 TDs as a junior in 2009.

He has recently narrowed down his college choices to Florida, Rutgers, North Carolina, PITT, and Notre Dame, and says he will try and take visits to all five schools.

Recruit to Watch: WR Jaxon Shipley

Brownwood's Jaxon Shipley is the younger brother of former Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley.

Shipley is a virtual clone of his brother, and has made the decision to follow in his footsteps at Texas.

He maybe a little on the frail side right now at just about 170 lbs, but Shipley offers up a great pair of hands and solid route running skills.

Jaxon is a 4-star prospect, who is rated as the No. 7 receiver in the country by Rivals and the No. 10 wide receiver by Scout.

He is shaping up to be one of the most productive players in the Longhorns' 2011 class.

Recruit to Watch: RB De'Anthony Thomas

De’Anthony Thomas and his Crenshaw team are looking to rebound off a loss against North Gwinnett High School (GA) last week.

Thomas, a USC commit, put on a remarkable showing in the first half of the game, rushing for 137 yards and scoring on two long touchdown plays.

Sadly, his legs would end up falling victim to Georgia’s humidity, and he was forced to sit out nearly the entire second half with cramps. Gwinnett took advantage of his absence and pulled off a 17-12 comeback win.

Thomas is a versatile athlete who can play running back, cornerback, or wide receiver at the next level, but most schools seem to be looking at him as a cornerback.

He’s a little on the small side at 5‘9", 160 lbs, but every major scouting service thinks he can definitely make up for his lack of size with his elite athletic ability. Thomas is ranked as the second-best athlete in the nation by Rivals, and the top cornerback overall by Scout.
