Reggie Bush To Be Stripped of 2005 Heisman
Saint running back Reggie Bush is expected to be stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy by end of the month, Yahoo Sports reports.
Fans have been speculating what the Heisman Trophy Trust would do regarding this controversial matter for weeks now, and it appears that a clear-cut decision has been made.
One of the most prolific players in USC history has been engulfed in controversy ever since the NCAA placed sanction on USC for “lack of institutional control”, with the punishments including four years probation, reduced football scholarships, and a two year bowl ban.
This decision was thought to be largely surrounding USC alumni Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo, who both were heavily suspected of receiving improper benefits during their time in college.
While Mayo, for the most part, has avoided public scrutiny in the matter, Bush has been at the forefront of criticism regarding the matter.
The matter has been continuously heating up ever since USC President, and fellow USC alumnus, Max Nikias ordered the removal of all displays pertaining to Bush and Mayo from campus.
Nikias also decided to give back USC’s copy of the 2005 Heisman.
Since then, speculation has run rampant about whether or not Bush would return or be stripped of the coveted college MVP award.
Bush has remained adamant about the fact that he never accepted unethical favors or gifts during his time at USC.
This blockbuster announcement essentially proves that Bush is, and has been, lying regarding what happened behind the scenes during his time at USC.
The NCAA has determined that Bush received favors from two sports marketers attempting to sign him.
The gifts are said to include free hotel stays, as well as a rent-free home, for Bush’s family, a limousine, and even the suit Bush wore to the 2005 Heisman ceremony.
Also worth mentioning in regards to this situation is that, last week, Texas coach Mack Brown gave his vote of confidence to have the award rescinded to Vince Young.
Young was second in the 2005 Heisman voting, although Bush won by a landslide.
Many will recall that Young had a career game in the 2005 title game, posting 467 all-purpose yards and three rushing touchdowns. This led the Longhorns to a narrow 41-38 victory over none other than USC, and Young was a shoe in for Rose Bowl MVP.
Early reports indicate that this will not likely be the case though, as the 2005 Heisman is expected be vacated, as opposed to declaring a new winner.
Further details regarding this breakthrough announcement are forthcoming, as USC, Reggie Bush, and the New Orleans Saints have yet to make a comment regarding the matter.
