NFL Fantasy Football Depth Chart With Notes and Player Information
Labor Day weekend is the biggest weekend in fantasy football drafts, so what better time to unveil my first fantasy depth chart http://tinyurl.com/fantasydepthchart. Every week the fantasy depth chart will look at every team in the league and sort players by fantasy value. Every Thursday you'll get a new updated chart with the previous week's impact built in. This is something I do every year for myself to keep track of every move in the NFL from week to week. Now I'll be sharing it with you, to help you build a winning team.
Some notes about the fantasy depth chart itself before we dive into the player’s info.
+ These are my personal rankings and feelings about each team and their player's fantasy values. Therefore, they will not necessarily mirror NFL team depth charts found on team sites.
+ There is a legend at the bottom of the sheet showing the different colors identifying different conditions. Injuries, holdouts, suspensions, rookies and tight ends all have their own colors so they can be easily picked out. If two conditions exist on one player, one is indicated by color and the other is shown by either (R) for rookie or (INJ) for injured.
+ WRs and TEs are combined into a REC category, thus the need for a color to distinguish the TEs. Every relevant TE is included on the chart. RECs are ranked based on who I think is going to get the targets and their current value.
+ These rankings will be updated weekly throughout the season. Each week will have its own sheet, allowing us to keep track of moves in value from week to week.
+ Players that are deemed out for the year are not currently included. Players like Ben Tate, who may still have value in keeper leagues, are not here. Players will be removed if they are deemed to be out for the entire year.
Let's take a look at some special cases on this week's fantasy depth chart.
ARI - Derek Anderson is taking over as the starting QB for now and the Cardinals are fielding offers for Matt Leinart from the Bills, Raiders, and Giants. The Bills would be the best situation for him and might be the best chance to start right away. If Leinart is not traded and Anderson struggles at all, Leinart will most likely get a second chance at starting.
SF - I have Anthony Dixon as my #3 RB behind Brian Westbrook right now, but I'm just not sure about his durability. If Gore were to go down, I think Dixon would benefit more than Westbrook.
WAS - Many depth charts have Larry Johnson as the #2 behind Clinton Portis but I believe young Keiland Williams has the most value out of any of the backs there in Washington. However, Mike Shanahan has been known to juggle running backs and no RB behind Portis has guaranteed value.
DET - Nate Burleson is my #2 pass catcher for the Lions ahead of TE Brandon Pettigrew. He is going to get the first chance to have an impact as the WR2 to Megatron's WR1. He will have opportunities to be good, but if he doesn't capitalize on them, Bryant Johnson or someone else could get the next chance.
GB - I have Jermichael Finley ahead of Donald Driver in my chart right now based on Finley's major involvement in the offense in the preseason. Finley can cause matchup troubles depending on what defensive personnel is on the field. I've got him only behind Clark and Gates.
ATL - Various depth charts have Jerious Norwood as the backup to Michael Turner. I just don't trust him to be the guy they turn to in case of injury to Turner. Jason Snelling was a very capable fill-in when Turner was hurt last year and he's the guy I'm drafting as the handcuff to Turner.
CAR - Rookie Brandon LaFell has earned the WR2 spot in Carolina. Someone besides Steve Smith has to have value in the passing game for them to be successful. Keep an eye on him in deep keeper leagues.
TB - Kellen Winslow is one of 3 TEs that I have in the #1 REC spot for their respective teams. In the case of Winslow, the spot isn't really earned because of their individual talents, but is more based on the quality of WRs in both Tampa. Rookie Mike Williams looks like the WR you want to own if you must own a Tampa WR.
DEN - I have Tim Tebow in the QB2 slot despite reports that Brady Quinn is technically the backup. If Orton struggles later in the season and they're out of a playoff race, I think McDaniels would be more likely to turn over the keys to the offense to Tebow rather than Quinn.
KC - Dexter McCluster is listed as a WR in most fantasy game sites. He’s actually both a WR/RB on Yahoo. ESPN only has him listed as a WR. I think he'll be used in both capacities in KC and have him listed as my WR3 and RB3.
NYJ - I currently have Dustin Keller over Santonio Holmes here, but only because of Holmes' suspension. When he's back in Week 5 he will probably jump Keller, Braylon Edwards and Jericho Cotchery and land in the REC1 slot.
PIT - I will be leaving Roethlisberger in the QB1 spot despite the suspension because nobody will be drafting Byron Leftwich as their QB. Big Ben can be a top 10 QB when he returns.
That's it for this week, any questions feel free to email me or look me up on twitter. Good luck in all your drafts this weekend.
