Fantasy Football Top 25 Quarterbacks for 2010: Final Preseason Rankings

Eric StashinAug 30, 2010

With the major portion of preseason now in the books, it’s time to post our final preseason rankings (barring some significant news breaking).  All week we’ll be posting a different position, so make sure to keep checking back.

While there haven’t been any major changes among the quarterbacks, the preseason schedule has certainly created some concerns.

Whose performance has sent them sliding?  Who played well enough to earn our confidence?  Let’s take a look at how things currently shape up:

  24. Derek Anderson - Arizona Cardinals
  25. Sam Bradford - St. Louis Rams

Thoughts:

  • Many want to believe that Kevin Kolb will be an elite option in the NFL, but he did not look good this week.  He threw for just 103 yards and an interception against the Kansas City Chiefs.  Considering the opponents, you really would’ve wanted to see a lot more then completing less then half his attempts.  No receiver managed more then 39 yards, though DeSean Jackson was forced out of the game early.  Still, this performance will help to temper the lofty expectations some have created for him.  I had him ranked 15th, which is where he’s going to stay.
  • With Matt Leinart apparently losing his starting role, and potentially his spot on the Cardinals roster, he falls completely off the rankings.  Derek Anderson now has value, but only as a low-end QB2.
  • Mark Sanchez’ performance in the third preseason game is somewhat troublesome.  He went 13-21 with 139 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception playing into the fourth quarter.  In what is considered the biggest tune-up for the regular season, you really would’ve liked to have seen a bit more.  He falls a few spots, as there have to be concerns.
  • There is talk that the 49ers are going to attempt to split things evenly between the run and pass, which certainly would hurt the potential value of Alex Smith (click here for more on this).  Of course, he was a risk to begin with, so there is no reason to alter his standing in the rankings.
  • Despite a less then stellar receiving corps (especially with Donnie Avery’s season sending knee injury), Sam Bradford went 15-22 for 189 yards and 2 TD.  While he hasn’t officially been named the Week 1 starter, you have to think that it won’t be long until he takes the reigns in St. Louis.  That certainly makes him worth the flier in deeper/dynasty formats.
  • Injury concerns drop Donovan McNabb slightly, but he still is a low-end QB1/high-end QB2 in all formats.  At this point, we just have to hope that he’s ready to take the field Week 1.

What are your thoughts on these rankings?  Who is ranked too high?  Who is ranked too low?
