English Premier League: Power Rankings—Week 3
This week in the English Premier League, we saw the shock result of the season with Wigan winning 1-0 at White Hart Lane over Tottenham Hotspur.
Also, a flurry of big injuries hit Chelsea and Arsenal with John Terry, Frank Lampard and Robin van Persie all leaving their matches early.
Next week, the EPL has off and so do I. So, with that being said the next set of rankings will come in two weeks after the fourth set of games finish.
Note: Number in parenthesis is last week's ranking.
20. West Ham United (18)
1 of 20
Avram Grant finds himself in a familiar place in the EPL table, that would be the bottom.
After suffering with Portsmouth last season, Grant's Hammers lost 3-0 to Manchester United this weekend and are one of two EPL teams with no points.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Chelsea, 10:00 AM
19. Stoke City (16)
2 of 20
The Potters are the other EPL team with zero points.
Tony Pulis' men did play to a 2-0 loss to Chelsea but that with a hurt John Terry and Frank Lampard.
Still, the Stoke ship needs to sail in the up direction so that they can avoid relegation and save Pulis' job.
Next Game: September 13th vs. Aston Villa, 3:00 PM
18. West Bromwich Albion (17)
3 of 20
The Baggies only gave up one goal to Liverpool and that came on a Fernando Torres 65th minute goal.
Other than that, the Baggies were respectable holding the Reds to a single goal.
Roberto di Matteo's squad should be encouraged by Wigan's result versus Spurs and should take that as motivation that they can do the same at The Hawthorns in two weeks.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Tottenham, 10:00 AM
17. Blackpool (19)
4 of 20
Bloomfield Road was the place to be on Saturday as the Tangerines had an exciting 2-2 draw with Fulham.
Ian Holloway's squad had the win in the bag after a 76th minute strike from Luke Varney but a Dickson Etuhu late equalizer ruined the home debut for Blackpool.
Next Game: September 11th @ Newcastle, 10:00 AM
16. Blackburn (14)
5 of 20
A respectable 2-1 loss at Ewood Park to Arsenal was how Sam Allardyce's men spent the weekend.
Mame Biram Diouf showed that he can be a force to be reckoned with up front to partner Nikola Kalinic with his 27th minute goal, his first since coming over on loan from Manchester United.
Next Game: September 11th @ Manchester City, 10:00 AM
15. Wolverhampton (15)
6 of 20
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Wolves a 1-0 lead that they could not hold on to at Molineux against Newcastle on Saturday.
With a 1-1 draw, Wolves find themselves in the top half of the table with five points but their one win came against lowly Stoke City.
Next Game: September 11th @ Fulham, 10:00 AM
14. Newcastle (13)
7 of 20
The Andy Carroll Show continues to amaze EPL fans as he netted the equalizer for Chris Hughton's squad at the Molineux on Saturday.
Carroll is alongside names like Malouda, Drogba, and Walcott for a share of the lead in goals scored this season with four.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Blackpool, 10:00 AM
13. Wigan Athletic (20)
8 of 20
By far the shock result of the season so far, Wigan took down Spurs 1-0 at White Hart Lane.
In a sluggish affair Saturday, Hugo Rodallega scored in the 80th minute, just minutes after Antolin Alcaraz missed a wide open net.
Roberto Martinez still has work to do with his Wigan side but an away win at Spurs is a very good result to propel the Latics in the right direction.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Sunderland, 10:00 AM
12. Everton (11)
9 of 20
Everton are a mess right now after a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa puts them in the drop zone with one point right now.
No fear though for David Moyes' club who are sure to rebound sometime soon and a home win against Manchester United would be a perfect remedy although it is very unlikely.
Next Game: vs. Manchester United, Saturday, 7:45 AM
11. Aston Villa (12)
10 of 20
The Villains were not that great either but they did get a goal from Luke Young for the first time in two years.
Young's goal ended up being the only one in the match against Everton at Villa Park.
Now, the focus on Villa switches to the manager position that is still undecided but Kevin MacDonald is giving Villa's board something to think about with this result.
Next Game: September 13th @ Stoke City, 3:00 PM
10. Tottenham (5)
11 of 20
A Champions League hangover is exactly what Spurs suffered in their 1-0 loss at home to Wigan.
The team looked weak with only one starter from Wednesday's UCL squad being replaced, Vedran Corluka replaced by Younes Kaboul.
Harry Redknapp needs to manage this team better and make sure they are not so fatigued all season long.
Next Game: September 11th @ West Brom, 10:00 AM
9. Manchester City (4)
12 of 20
With one City loss comes the start of the rumors that Roberto Mancini will be sacked.
The obvious truth is that Mancini has a short leash from the owners and after the 3-0 win over Liverpool last week, a loss away to Sunderland is unacceptable.
If Man City want to have a chance at the top four, they have to win games like this.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Blackburn, 10:00 AM
8. Bolton (9)
13 of 20
Bolton proved that they can score yet again and this time Kevin Davies and Robbie Blake took care of the goal scoring in the 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Sunday.
It is still too early to call Bolton the surprise team this season until they start playing the big four and will get that chance with a trip to the Emirates ahead of them.
Next Game: September 11th @ Arsenal, 10:00 AM
7. Sunderland (10)
14 of 20

6. Fulham (6)
15 of 20
Dickson Etuhu pulled out a late 87th minute goal to take a point from Blackpool in a 2-2 draw.

Paintsil's own goal changed the game and gave Blackpool hope and that is why the Cottagers did not take the full three points from Bloomfield Road.
Next Game: September 11th vs. Wolves, 10:00 AM
5. Birmingham (7)
16 of 20
The second 2-2 draw of the season for the Blues put them at five points overall and sixth in the table.
Roger Johnson and Craig Gardner put home goals for Alex McLeish's club at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.
The Blues are looking to prove that last year was not a fluke and that they want to contend for a longshot at a European place.
Next Game: September 12th vs. Liverpool, 11:00 AM
4. Liverpool (8)
17 of 20
Getting rid of Javier Mascherano and landing Paul Konchesky and Raul Meireles set the Reds for a pretty good week already.

Next Game: September 12th @ Birmingham, 11:00 AM
3. Manchester United (3)

Next Game: September 11th vs. Bolton, 10:00 AM
1. Chelsea (1)
20 of 20
The Champions are still perfect after a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge over Stoke City.
Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba netted their fourth goals of the season respectively with one each.
The one worry for the Blues will be the injuries picked up by John Terry and Frank Lampard but they do not have to rush back to play EPL worst West Ham in two weeks.
Next Game: September 11th @ West Ham, 10:00 AM
