TNA Stock Watch: Fourtune, MCMG, Jay Lethal, Whose Stock Is Up In TNA?

Alfred KonuwaAug 28, 2010

With TNA heading into what will be a (more) overlooked No Surrender Pay-Per-View before what's sure to be an interesting Bound For Glory Spectacular, the time has come to hold yet another shareholder's meeting to assess the value of TNA's current talent.

With the pendulum seeming to swing the opposite direction for this stock watch, we noticed that TNA has obviously cooled off on some talent and angles while suddenly becoming high on others.  It's the name of the game when it comes to wrestling, especially in TNA, so let's get to it.

STOCK UP: Motor City Machineguns

1 of 7

After making their rightful claim as the best tag team never to win the TNA tag team titles, the Motor City Machineguns have made bountiful strides since our last TNA stock watch.  Not only winning the tag team titles, the Guns, with the help of an incredible feud with Beer Money Inc. (strictly from a wrestling standpoint) have been instrumental in revitalizing tag team wrestling in mainstream sports entertainment.

With great double team maneuvers and a fantastic ending to five impressive wrestling matches (that were unfortunately booked like crap), the Motor City Machineguns have finally been given a consistent light to be featured under and they continue to deliver.

STOCK UP: Tag Team Wrestling

2 of 7

While the WWE feels that putting the Trojan condom logo on their belts will go a long way in revitalizing their feeble tag team division, TNA has taken a more aggressive approach in actually featuring tag teams who can wrestle and pitting them against one another.

What a concept.

The Motor City Machineguns aforementioned feud with Beer Money Inc. was the impetus to what seems to be a return to prominence of tag team wrestling.  This momentum continued with a fantastic match between MCMG and Generation ME this past week on Impact.

The tag team titles will be on the line at the upcoming No Surrender pay-per-view next week, and while they will be defended against a talented Desmond Wolfe in an entertaining tag team with Brutus Magnus, it's pretty curious that London Brawling will be getting a shot without having wrestled one match together on Impact.

In any event, TNA has placed an obvious emphasis on tag team wrestling and this will be one of the simple, effective decisions that will establish TNA as the alternative they need to be to succeed.

STOCK UP: Madison Rayne

3 of 7

As one of the best, if not the best, heels in the knockouts division, Madison Rayne has broken away from the silent backup role with the Beautiful People and then some.

Despite impressing as a heel, the stars seem to be aligned for a pretty lucrative babyface run for Madison Rayne.

With the original Beautiful people reuniting, it may be only a matter of time before Angelina Love and Velvet Sky turn back heel (where they both belong).  As their feud with Madison Rayne escalates, and with Madison Rayne teaming with *SPOILER ALERT* Biker girl Tara, it may be the optimal choice to make the Rayne/Tara tandem babyface when Tara is ultimately revealed as Rayne's biker.

Make a healthy investment in Madison Rayne's stock as it should not be too expensive, and has strong potential to blossom into a blue chipper.

STOCK UP: The Pope

4 of 7

The Pope's stock is marginally up as he seems to be shaking off what has been a rather shaky return.  In his first match back, the Pope lost to Kurt Angle at Victory Road in a match that put the fans to sleep.

However slowly, but surely, Pope has begun to get his swagger back to the point where we recommend a conservative investment in his stock.

With the Pope, it all comes down to gaining that momentum he had leading up to TNA 's Lockdown pay-per-view earlier this year when he competed for the TNA Heavyweight title before he was ultimately injured.

Do not expect the Pope to make much noise moving forward in the upcoming TNA tournament, as TNA's gauntlet angle with Kurt Angle has pretty much boxed them in to the point where Angle is the logical choice for the next TNA Champion.  But stranger things have happened.

STOCK DOWN: Fourtune

5 of 7

First off, Big Nasty Securities would like to give a shout out to its CEO, Big Nasty, for being one of the only wrestling pundits to correctly spell "Fourtune" before it was revealed on Impact last week that indeed it is spelled F-o-u-r-t-u-n-e.  Kevin Eck, Jason Powell, Wade Keller, and some of the staunchest insiders misspelled this word numerous times before being universally corrected on this past week's Impact.

With that said, Big Nasty Securities is down on the Fourtune stock.  Despite being featured in TNA's biggest angle, two of the group's members lost upon their debut, and the only member who won (A.J. Styles) needed help from Abyss to beat a guy (Tommy Dreamer) who wasn't even in his league.

Fourtune continued its losing ways in this week's eight man tag-team main event, and while they are destined to start winning both in and out of the ring, this is definitely not how you book a heel invasion stable filled with young talent (and Ric Flair).

Keep your eye on this stock, but do not make any investments until you see some consistent W's from these guys.

STOCK DOWN: TNA Heavyweight Championship

6 of 7

TNA will go approximately two months without a champion while yet another drawn tournament continues to take form.

With Rob Van Dam currently in a contract quagmire with TNA out with an injury due to Abyss' "girlfriend" Janice, the title only continues to lose value the longer TNA goes without a champion to defend it.

TNA's litany of angle's, from Hogan and Jarrett who may or may not be in cahoots with Fourtune, and Fourtune feuding with EV 2.0 when they're not beating down Dixie Carter's husband, will continue to take the emphasis off what is supposed to be TNA's biggest prize.

The value of the TNA Heavyweight Championship is basically nonexistent, and the company needs a champion before we can ever recommend any type of investment in this belt.

STOCK DOWN: Jay Lethal

7 of 7

After getting the biggest push of his career with a clean win over Ric Flair by using Flair's own legendary submission hold against him, the powers that be have once again relegated Jay Lethal to "stop" mode.

Not only has Lethal lost an embarrassing street fight to Ric Flair, he has continued his downward spiral by losing clean to the Jeff Hardy, and Mr. Anderson, substantiating any doubts that he indeed is not in their league.

Big Nasty Securities likes what Jay Lethal can bring to the table for TNA, however TNA does not seem to share such sentiments at this moment which is why we have no choice but to downgrade his stock.
