NFL Preseason 2010: Chicago Bears Top Storylines
The Chicago Bears were an up and down team in 2009 but ultimately did not perform very well.
They have added some new players and coaches, and there is optimism in the air that they can compete in the NFC North with the likes of Green Bay and Minnesota.
Who Will Jay Cutler Throw To?
1 of 7
The Chicago Bears once again did not better themselves in the passing game. Sure they have a talented quarterback and a new offensive system, but it really doesn’t do any good if there are not any quality receivers to try and get the ball to.
Greg Olsen, Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, and Devin Aromashodu will be relied on heavily to get open and make Jay Cutler’s job a little easier.
Will Chris Williams Be Able to Play Left Tackle?
2 of 7
Currently, the talk of Bears camp is the poor performance of Chris Williams during the Bears preseason game against the Raiders. He allowed four sacks and was made a fool of by Kamerion Wimbley.
He, along with the rest of the offensive line, has not looked up to par this preseason and their play this season will dictate the productivity of the Bears' offense.
Will Matt Forte Regain His Rookie Form?
3 of 7
Matt Forte had an excellent rookie campaign but was slowed by a below average offensive line.
Splitting carries with Chester Taylor this season with give Forte some extra time off, but they will have their hands full if the offensive line doesn’t block.
Will the Defense Stay Healthy?
4 of 7
The Bears have put together a good lineup on the defensive side of the football, with the only major hole being at the safety position. The main question will be, can Brian Urlacher and Tommie Harries stay on the field?
With those guys healthy, and with newly acquired Julius Peppers at defensive end, the Bears should have a good defense.
How Will the New Parts Play Out?
5 of 7
Julius Peppers, Chester Taylor, Brandon Manumaleuna, and Mike Martz chose Chicago this offseason. They should be able to help out a team that was in need of a boost. Julius Peppers brings some firepower to a defense that could use a ball hawk like Peppers.
Chester Taylor and Brandon Manumaleuna will attempt to give the Bears a dominant rushing attack. Mike Martz steps in to try and rejuvenate an offense that stalled for most of the season in 2009.
How Will Mike Martz’s Offense Unfold in Chicago?
6 of 7
Mike Martz is heralded as an offensive mastermind, but he seems to bounce from place to place. The Bears are hoping that his massive playbook will put a fire under their offense.
Will Lovie Get a Sense of Urgency?
7 of 7
The way that this season plays out will definitely determine Lovie Smith’s future as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. To this point, he seems to be too passive to fire up his guys to win.
Despite bringing the Bears to the Super Bowl, Lovie has not really done much else. If the Bears do not make the playoffs in 2010, Lovie is gone for sure.
