IndyCar Series: The Twins, a Closer Look
Sitting here on my analytical perch, atop nowhere, I have watched Izod's campaign unfold throughout the last 10 months.
Maybe "The Race to the Party" has sold a lot of clothing. Maybe 500 people watching an online stream of P. Diddy and Mark Wahlberg as they party hearty has pulled in a lot of new fans. I'm not feelin' it.
Major, major, major props to Izod for coming up with this idea:
The girl on the Firestone tire? You gotta be kidding me. This is golden.
Too bad the campaign didn't precede the season, when new viewers would have been enticed to tune in and see the babes on the first broadcast. Maybe the idea hadn't been born yet. It's a shame there are only four races left now.
Still, that's the first single piece of strategy that Izod has come up with that might make some buzz. Credit to them for the inspiration. Great work, Izod!
Quick note about today's race, later on at Sonoma:
I'm hoping tire management is a big factor today, as that should be the intended result of two compound choices and the requirement to run both.
Seemed like yesterday the reds were good for at least a second-and-a-half. Usually the difference in grip levels is not that great between the two.
If there is enough gap between the choices, maybe some more passing opportunities will result. And different pit sequences, since a softer set of reds should go off a lot sooner.
At least that's what I keep hoping for, and Jon Beekhius shared the same opinion at Mid Ohio. He feels that Firestone is reluctant to make the reds appear as inferior.
Simona and at least two of the Penske cars ran most of the warm-up this morning on reds; maybe they were getting a good read on how many good miles they can expect during the race.
Or, it will be the same as always and the two compounds will be similar enough to make no difference. If that's the case, Will Power demonstrates his dominance once again.
