Ohio State: Is Freshman WR Corey 'Philly' Brown the Next DeSean Jackson?
We don't always get a ton of information about what goes on behind the scenes at the Ohio State Buckeyes fall camp.
But the best kept secret may no longer be a secret. Freshman WR Corey Brown, from Philadelphia, may be a star in the making.
And for the record, this Brown is of no relation to the Corey Brown that came to Ohio State from Gateway, PA, last summer in the 2009 class.
Brown, who will wear No. 10 for the Buckeyes, has reportedly been dazzling the coaches in practice, earning the nickname "Philly" Brown from Jim Tressel himself.
The highly touted Philly Brown came to Columbus out of Cardinal O'Hara HS outside Pennsylvania as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the mid-Atlantic area, and had drawn comparisons to Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin because of the way he operates in space.
Brown was also an Under Armour All-American along with fellow Buckeye freshman WR James Louis, and the former won the "Hands" Competition in the skills challenge.
But what Philly Brown brings to the table that few other receivers on the team have, is deadly speed, something OSU has not truly seen since the Ted Ginn, Jr. era.
Brown set a Delaware County record in the 100 and 200-meter, running the latter in 21.18 seconds, which is just 0.1 seconds slower than Florida RB Jeff Demps, considered by most to be the fastest player in college football.
Philly Brown has been quick to make an impact on the practice field, especially at the WR position which carries a great deal of depth including starters DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher.
And with an Ohio State team that traditionally runs the football, it's a surprise to see how many talented WRs the Buckeyes have put into the NFL in the past few years.
Whether Philly Brown is able to be another one of those guys or not remains to be seen. But if we needed to find out about the type of competitor Brown is on the practice field, we already know the answer to that question.
He has been a terror on the second team in the past couple of days in practice, and could actually make a legitimate challenge to senior Grant Schwartz and redshirt freshman Chris Fields for the all-important fourth WR spot.
Brown has even caught the eye of Terrelle Pryor, who did not hesitate in the past few days, saying that Philly Brown could be the next DeSean Jackson, who ironically is a star for Brown's hometown Philadelphia Eagles.
If Brown can be like Jackson, who had a great career at Cal before becoming a star in Philadelphia, the Buckeyes may have found a special talent.
If he continues to dazzle in practice as he has the past couple weeks, it wont be long before Brown is burning the defenses of the Big Ten.
