Shonn Greene Fantasy Football Jabber
New York Jets Running Back Shonn Greene was given a nod of approval this offseason when the Jets parted ways with Thomas Jones. Fantasy Football owners are drooling over the possibility of this bruiser taking over as the lead back on a young, up and coming contender in the Jets. Upside is overflowing, but there are some things to take into consideration.
While Thomas Jones was on his way out, Tomlinson is on his way in. There isn’t much to look into this because if the Jets were looking for a main back other than Greene, they could have got another season out of Thomas Jones.

Greene is going to be the lead guy on a team that loves to run the ball. While they may not run as much as last season, there will still be plenty of attempts for Greene to be a stud fantasy football running back.
On the downside, Greene’s potential is based on upside, as there is not much evidence to base it on anything else yet. We are looking at a guy who had one 100-yard game and two TDs as Jones's backup.
His big game came against the Raiders in Week Seven when he had 19 attempts, 144 yards, and both of his TDs. This was good for a 7.6 yards per carry and he had a 33-yard run. All of these were season highs, and without this game his season stats would look a lot different.
PPR Owners beware! Anything can change from one season to the next in the NFL, but Greene’s receiving game needs to be noted.
As you can see in the chart below, Greene was not a factor in the passing game. As an Iowa fan, this writer can tell you that he was not a receiving threat there either.
With Tomlinson in the fold, we could see him on passing downs and taking touches away from Greene as a result.
Greene’s Average Draft Position (ADP) is varied from the mid-first to the mid-third, averaging out at 2.05.
One thing to consider with Greene is that he may be one of the last available running backs to choose who is going to be touted as “The Man” on your draft board.
While we expect him to lose some touches to LT, the players available after him are likely to be those that are more Running Back By Committee backs. If you are a believer, you may want to use a late first-rounder or an early-second to ensure you get him.
