Cricket: County Championship Division Two Round 12
The Division Two title race took another twist as Glamorgan were the only county to win in this round of fixtures.
The Welsh side overtook Sussex at the top on 177 points, winning seven, drawing two, and losing three after their 241-run win over Worcestershire at Colwyn Bay.
The home side made 369 in their first innings as Mark Cosgrove smashed 84 from 75 balls.
Daryl Mitchell carried his bat for 165 not out as Worcestershire declared on 350-8.
Glamorgan responded with 397-8 declared as Ben Wright hit 121 not out and Tom Maynard fell two runs short of a century.
Mitchell and Alexei Kervezee both made 45, but Worcestershire slumped to 175 all out, as Dean Cosker's 4-27 claimed the win for Glamorgan.
Sussex have 176 points, winning six, drawing four, and losing two after their draw with Surrey.
Sussex recovered from 47-5 to post 217 in their first innings, Chris Tremlett taking 4-32.
Surrey replied with 292, Yasir Arafat's 5-92 restricting the home side.
Sussex reached 275-6, Michael Yardy hitting 100 not out before a draw was agreed after day two was washed out.
Northamptonshire are third on 152 points, winning six, drawing two, and losing four after their draw with Derbyshire.
Northamptonshire made 201 first time around, Greg Smith taking 5-54 and Jonathan Clare 4-42.
Derbyshire built a good lead with 319, Chesney Hughes hitting 156, while Elton Chigumbura took 5-92.
The away side made the game safe in their second innings, scoring 469. David Sales (92), James Middlebrook (84), Rob Newton (82) and Ben Howgego (80) all getting runs.
Chasing 352, Derbyshire reached 76 off 33.1 overs before a draw was agreed.
Leicestershire have 151 points, winning five, drawing three, and losing five after their draw with Middlesex at Lord's.
Middlesex posted 219 in their first innings thanks to a last-wicket partnership of 58, while Matthew Hoggard took 6-63.
The away side relied heavily on James Taylor (106 not out) to reach 282, while Toby Roland-Jones took 4-52.
Middlesex made 255 second time around, setting a victory target of 193 for Leicestershire.
However, they ran out of time at 139-5 in this rain-affected encounter.
Gloucestershire are fifth on 141 points, winning five, drawing one, and losing six.
Worcestershire have 140 points, winning four, drawing four, and losing four after their defeat to Glamorgan.
Middlesex have 123 points, winning three, drawing four, and losing six after their draw with Leicestershire.
Surrey are on 119 points, winning three, drawing four, and losing five after their draw with Sussex.
Derbyshire stay bottom on 104 points, winning six, drawing four, and losing six after their draw with Northamptonshire.
The next round of fixtures, August 16-19, sees Glamorgan host Middlesex, Northamptonshire face Gloucestershire and Worcestershire play Surrey.
Sussex against Derbyshire runs from August 18-21.
