The Miz Detractors: Clearing the Air
Hello folks. I am back and ready to write again. So as always, sit back, relax, and feel free to critique.
My statement is clear and simple people: The criticism of The Miz is unwarranted.
Over the course of a couple of weeks, I could not come to this website without seeing a headline criticizing The Miz and his recent rise to the top of the Monday Night Raw main event scene. All I've heard is how The Miz can't work in the ring and wouldn't be a credible WWE champion.
Well, I'm here to say that is completely ridiculous.
The number one gripe that I always hear about The Miz is his supposed inability to work. Now, I'll be the first one to admit that his in-ring work could use more work, but he is not by any means bad.
Yes, his move set is very simplistic, but there are several others whose moves are as simplistic, if not moreso. The names John Cena and Hunter Helmsley come directly to mind. Clothesline, clothesline, back suplex, "five knuckle shuffle," finisher—all of those moves sound pretty familiar, if you ask me.
Of course, there is always going to be the conversation of "this guy is better" or "the guy should have gotten the push." So, let's go over it:
If you are a firm believer in these conversations and the first name that comes to your mind is John Morrison, then I'd have to ask you what wrestling show you've been watching over the past year. Since leaving Smackdown, Morrison has not come anywhere close to getting over as a face. That would be almost 99 percent because his mic work is, in a word, terrible.
Does anyone remember when The Miz and Morrison were breaking up as a tag team on Smackdown? They sat in the middle of the ring and traded insults with each other. Morrison spoke circles around Miz in that segment. I wonder where Morrison dropped that ability, because he desperately needs it back.
Evan Bourne is another name that continuously comes up. Listen, Bourne was being pushed in the main event, but unsurprisingly, was sent back in the mid card game. I'm not saying that's right, but it is what it is.
Bourne has the same problem that Morrison has anyway: They both cannot speak.
And I can hear the critics now: "But what about the wrestling?" Well, Morrison and Bourne read the same playbook. The high flying spots are great entertainment, but eventually, you're going to have to slow it down and hit the mat. Neither Bourne or Morrison haver shown that they can do that.
Fifteen months ago, every wrestling fan was begging the WWE to create new, young stars with the guys that they had on their roster. Congratulations IWC members, they heard your complaints and have rewarded you with talented men. Men such as Sheamus, Jack Swagger, and yes, The Miz.
Just face the facts people, The Miz worked hard and was rewarded. The people gave him a sliver of a chance, and he used it to become a good worker. Main event Miz is here, and from the looks of it, he isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
