Tyreke Evans and 20 Athletes With A Need For Speed

Nathaniel UyAug 14, 2010

Tyreke Evans was named the NBA Rookie of the Year for '09-'10 and took home the Eddie Gottlied trophy this offseason.  With good reason, Sacramento Kings fans were feeling very hopeful about their team's outlook with the young star in tow.

But the young 20-year-old disappointed several fans and supporters this offseason after he was caught recklessly driving on a Sacramento freeway.

Evans, for reasons unexplained, decided to go joyriding and racing over the Memorial Day weekend. Did he not think he was going to get caught?

I guess not.  And neither did any of the athletes on this list...

Tim Lincecum

1 of 20

Lincecum got a speeding ticket for going 74 mph on a 60 mph per hour zone.  He might be able to get away with that when he's in San Francisco.  But not in his home state of Washington.

A Washington state Patrol Trooper also found marijuana in the Cy Young Award winner's car.

Plaxico Burress

2 of 20

A 2009 police report revealed that Burress, the former New York Giants wide receiver, was pulled over in Florida because he was driving like "he was going to kill somebody."

Burress was also reported to be uncooperative with the officer and belted several profanities at him.

It was believed to be his fifth traffic ticket over a one month span.

JJ Hickson

3 of 20

Supposedly, Hickson has had 16 tickets over the last two years.

An arrest warrant was even issued for him last June because failed to make two court appearances for a ticket he received after going 61 mph in a 25 mph zone.

He's received at least two other tickets for driving over 90 mph in 60 mph zones.

LeBron Jamess

On his 23rd birthday, James was pulled over for going 101 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The birthday boy didn't seem too apologetic for his need to speed; he later pleaded "no contest" and paid a $291 fine.

No big deal for the multi-millionaire.

Adrian Peterson

5 of 20

Peterson was ticketed for going 109 mph in a 55 mph zone.

A police spokesperson later said that Peterson was allowed to leave after getting a citation because it appeared to be a "routine traffic stop."

Really?

Bernard Berrian

6 of 20

Berrian didn't want Adrian Peterson to top him.

A day after his Minnesota Vikings teammate Peterson was busted for speeding, Berrian got one too.

His ticket was for going 104 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Delonte West

7 of 20

It was bad enough that he was caught speeding while riding a three-wheel motorcycle.  But West was also carrying with him multiple loaded weapons.

Two were handguns were found in his possession, a loaded shotgun inside a guitar case, as well as a hunting knife.

He was arrested for carrying multiple concealed weapons.

Where the heck was he going?

Albert Haynesworth

8 of 20

While with the Tennessee Titans, Haynesworth allegedly got into an accident that sent another vehicle crashing into a concrete Interstate median.

The driver of that vehicle then filed a lawsuit that stated Haynesworth was "intentionally and selfishly driving like a maniac" and subsequently caused the car accident.

Haynesworth was indicted by a grand jury for reckless driving and having an expired registration when the incident occurred.

Derrick Rose

9 of 20

Rose's first traffic ticket was a big one.  He was clocked at 106 mph at a 65 mph zone in Chicago.

The ticket came two weeks after he declared for the 2008 NBA draft and before he was even drafted by the Bulls.

Danica Patrick

10 of 20

When you're a professional race care driver, it must be hard to keep your foot away from the gas pedal.

Patrick was cited for going 54 mph on 35 mph zone in an Arizona suburb. It wasn't her first ticket either, she received an earlier ticket for going 57 mph on 45 mph zone.

She was told to take a defensive driving class in order to get her ticket dismissed.

Ray Emery

11 of 20

Emery, a former goaltender for the Ottawa Senators, had his Hummer impounded for speeding.

He was caught blazing in his car while in a community just south of Ottawa.

Although his speed wasn't released, Ontario law says that police have the authority to impound a vehicle going 50 kmh faster than the speed limit.

Charles Barkley

12 of 20

Charles was in such a hurry, he sped right through a red light and was pulled over by a cop.

It was bad enough that he was drunk but Sir Charles told police that he was in a rush because he was really excited about a rendezvous with a female companion.

Barkley admitted that he already met her on a previous occasion and she apparently gave him a night to remember.

Brandon Phillips

13 of 20

According to Kentucky police, Phillips was driving around 70 mph on a 35 mph zone.

Phillips had just left a Cincinnati Reds game and said he was in a hurry to get back home to celebrate his Birthday with friends and family.

Oh, by the way, his mom was in his car with them.

Chris Chelios

14 of 20

Chelios, a former NHL defenseman, was stopped by police in a suburban Chicago neighborhood for speeding and improper lane usage at 4 a.m.

He was also booked for DUI.

Derrick Morgan

15 of 20

Tennessee Titans defensive end and 16th overall draft pick started his career on a bad note.

He was caught going over 90 mph in a 70 mph zone in his home state of Georgia.  Then, he was taken to jail after it was discovered that he was driving with a suspended license.

Lawyer Milloy

16 of 20

In 2008, the Falcons defensive back was caught speeding in Atlanta the next morning after his team lost a football game.

Malloy was going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone and also booked for DUI after failing several field sobriety tests.

Ashley Cole

17 of 20

Earlier this year, Cole was caught by police for going 104 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The star left back for Chelsea told police he thought was actually driving 80 mph and he was speeding because he was tying to get away from paparazzi in his Lamborghini Gallardo.

Hmm.  I don't really know how much paparazzi's make but I really doubt they could outrace Cole's Lamborghini.

Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudamire

18 of 20

During their Portland Trailblazer days, the pair decided to drive back to Oregon after a road game against the Seattle Supersonics.

They must have been trying to get there fast because their car was pulled over by police for speeding. To make matters worse, the police officer that pulled them over smelled marijuana in the car.

Wallace and Stoudamire then admitted that they had smoked the weed prior but it was all gone by the time they were pulled over.

Jobe Chamberlain

19 of 20

Joba was pulled over for speeding near his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska but he got into more trouble because he was a little tipsy.

Chamberlain was nabbed for also having an open alcohol container in his car and was taken to detox.

Tyreke Evans

20 of 20

Tyreke Evans takes the crown as the King of speedsters on this list.

He was caught on camera going as fast 130 mph and believed to have been racing another car where the listed speed limit is 65 mph.  Wow.

It got so bad that Tyreke and a male passenger were arrested at gun point because police could not see through his tinted windows.  But apparently police just issued Evans a ticket and let him go.
