Cricket: County Championship Division One Round Twelve
Nottinghamshire went back to the top of the table and Warwickshire gave their survival hopes a boost in the latest tound of Division One fixtures.
Nottinghamshire have 154 points, winning five, drawing three, and losing three after they outscored Yorkshire in their draw at Headingley.
The home side crumbled to 178 in their first innings as Samit Patel took 2-2.
Nottinghamshire piled on the runs, making 545-7 as Patel (96) and David Hussey (251 not out) did the damage.
Yorkshire dug in second time around with a little help from the weather as they ended on 406-8 to ensure the draw. Jacques Rudolph top scoring with 141.
The result sees the White Rose County slip to second on 149 points, winning four, drawing seven, and losing one.
Somerset missed the chance to close the gap on the top two after drawing the Kent.
The result leaves them on 141 points, winning four, drawing five, and losing two.
Arul Suppiah (125) and James Hildreth (151) helped Somerset to 380 in their first innings.
Kent were indebted to Geraint Jones's 178 in their total of 372, as Ben Phillips took 5-72.
Somerset reached 387-7 second time around as Marcus Trescothick remained unbeaten on 188, as Kent used 10 bowlers with the match petering out to a draw.
James Tredwell took 5-95, while wicket-keeper Jones bowled an over and Robert Key (2-31) took his first two first class wickets.
Lancashire are fourth on 121 points, winning three and drawing seven.
Kent move up a place on 119 points, winning two, drawing six, and losing four after their draw with Somerset.
Essex are sixth on 114 points, winning two, drawing seven, and losing four after their low-scoring defeat by Warwickshire.
Essex slipped to 91-8 before making 150 as Rikki Clarke took 4-27.
Warwickshire gained a narrow lead of five runs as Bryce McGain took 4-33.
Essex improved slightly in their second innings with 159, but Imran Tahir's 4-20 ensured the bowlers were on top.
However, that changed as Warwickshire chased down their target of 155 for the loss of only three wickets. Ian Westwood (61) scoring the only half century of the match.
Hampshire open the gap by two more points to Durham after the sides played out a rain-affected draw in Basingstoke.
Hampshire have 112 points, winning two, drawing five, and losing four.
The home side started well, amassing 421-5 before declaring, including a 314-run second wicket partnership between Michael Carberry (162) and Michael Lumb (158).
Durham declared on 320-7, Gordon Muchall unbeaten on 140 and Ben Stokes making 99, as they tried to force a positive result.
Hampshire batted until a draw was agreed, with the home side 203-5. Carberry making another century (107) and Ian Blackwell (5-79) taking all five wickets.
Durham stay in the relegation places but do have games in hand on 107 points.
Last year champions have won three, drawn five, and lost two this season.
Warwickshire's win against Essex puts them on 101 points, winning three, drawing one, and losing eight.
The next round of fixtures, August 9-12, sees Lancashire host Durham and Somerset play Hampshire.
